Job Description
The Field Service Installation Lead Technician oversees the installation, integration, and verification of complex communication systems, primarily in military and shipboard environments. This role leads installation activities, develops and executes System Operation Verification Tests (SOVTs), ensures strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards, and provides programmatic, financial, and technical support across research, development, test, and evaluation efforts. The position requires frequent travel, close coordination with project leadership, and hands-on engagement in both field and remote settings.
Responsibilities
Serve as the Installation Lead for communication system deployments, ensuring all installation activities meet technical, quality, and schedule requirements.
Create comprehensive installation documentation and supporting deliverables, including plans, procedures, and records required by the contract.
Develop, document, and oversee the execution of System Operation Verification Tests (SOVTs) to validate proper system performance and configuration.
Support oversight and enforcement of safety requirements, ensuring adherence to OSHA and other applicable governing regulations during all installation and service activities.
Assist Project and Program Managers in adjudicating programmatic and execution issues, providing technical insight and recommendations to keep projects on track.
Support the management and coordination of platform integration and upgrade efforts, particularly in shipboard and naval environments.
Produce detailed service and installation reports that meet all contractual deadlines and accurately reflect work performed, issues encountered, and resolutions implemented.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with communication systems and related equipment, both on-site and remotely.
Effectively manage day-to-day elements of Department of Defense (DoD) projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating field activities.
Coordinate and direct onsite vendors and subcontractors, ensuring their work aligns with project scope, schedule, and quality standards.
Mentor and guide junior team members, providing technical direction and supporting their professional development.
Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and standard military documentation to support installation and integration tasks.
Populate required data and maintain accuracy in standard military documents related to systems installation, configuration, and verification.
Work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
Lift equipment and materials up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods as required during installation and field service activities.
Travel frequently to customer and shipyard locations, including shipboard and naval facilities, to perform installation, integration, and service work.
Essential Skills
Active Secret Clearance.
Valid passport with the ability to travel as required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat for working with technical and contractual documentation.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical drawings.
Minimum of 3 years of combined experience providing programmatic, financial, and technical support for the research, development, test, and evaluation of communication systems.
Experience working with military standards and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage day-to-day elements of a DoD project.
Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team in dynamic environments.
Experience mentoring junior team members in technical or project-related tasks.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods during field and installation work.
3-5 years of team lead experience, ideally in a military shipboard environment.
Working knowledge of standard military documents, including the ability to populate required data accurately.
Prior experience in Military Occupational Specialty 25H, 25S, or 25U, or USMC 0600 or 2800 fields, or related military experience in other branches.
Master Certification in Project Management.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Experience building and tying workflows to Microsoft Project schedules.
Experience coordinating and directing onsite vendors and subcontractors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in shipboard, shipyard, shipbuilding, or naval systems environments.
Experience with army, marine, navy, or naval shipyard operations.
Familiarity with communication and navigation systems such as SINCGARS, Blue Force Tracker (BFT), Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR), and other Blue Force or watercraft-related systems.
Field service management experience supporting installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
Strong troubleshooting skills for communication and electronic systems in demanding operational environments.
Ability to work effectively in remote settings and adapt to changing travel and project demands.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a remote capacity with extensive travel to customer sites, which can range up to approximately 50% travel depending on project requirements. Work sites include shipyards, naval and military facilities, shipboard environments, and other field locations where communication and naval systems are installed and maintained. The position involves hands-on work with communication systems, naval and watercraft platforms, and related electronic equipment, often in industrial or maritime environments. You will use standard office technologies such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Project for planning, documentation, and reporting, alongside technical tools and test equipment for installation and troubleshooting. The work may require standing for extended periods, navigating shipboard spaces, and lifting equipment up to 50 pounds. The environment is fast-paced, project-driven, and highly collaborative, emphasizing safety, adherence to OSHA and military standards, and professional interaction with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $45.00/hr.
