This position exists to assist colleges and universities, within defined regional areas, with the development and operation of Campus Veterans Centers or offices. Incumbents will provide professional level assistance and support to Veterans, military members, and their dependents by identifying, accessing, educating, advocating, and adjudicating benefits provided by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) and/or Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) and/or other governmental units or private organizations. Position serves as the decision maker for claims of education and employment benefit assistance. Decision making involves gathering complex information, making analysis, and informing clients of the final decision. Incumbents are expected to provide specialized expertise to clientele transitioning from the military to higher education and higher education to the workforce.
This position is based out of Minnesota State University Moorhead in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience in case management, benefit administration and/or benefits and services available for Veterans, Service Members and Families or related field
Skill in:
Public speaking and writing
Data gathering and data reporting
Ability to:
Effectively communicate, sufficient to explain department services and guidelines
Investigate, analyze, and interpret regulations, policies, procedures, and financial information to make appropriate determinations
Demonstrate effective human relations and diversity skills
Develop and maintain partner and stakeholder relationships
Liaison with high level campus officials and clients
Understand campus environments
STATUTORY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered eligible for appointment to this position, as technical staff defined in Minnesota Statutes 196.07, applicants must have the following qualifications defined in section 196.02:
Residence in the State of Minnesota,
Citizenship in the United States, and
Veteran of the armed forces of the United States as defined in section 197.447.
197.447 Veteran, defined : The word "veteran" as used in Minnesota Statutes, except in sections 136F.28, 196.21, and 243.251, means a citizen of the United States or a resident alien who has been separated under honorable conditions from any branch of the armed forces of the United States after having served on active duty for 181 consecutive days or by reason of disability incurred while serving on active duty, or who has met the minimum active duty requirement as defined by Code of Federal Regulations, title 38, section 3.12a, or who has active military service certified under section 401, Public Law 95-202. The active military service must be certified by the United States Secretary of Defense as active military service and a discharge under honorable conditions must be issued by the Secretary.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in Veterans services at an institute of higher learning
Experience working in Veterans services for County, State of Federal agencies
Experience working in colleges' and universities' organizational structures and programs and the services they provide
Experience working in remote location without direct supervision
Additional Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit an original or certified copy of their DD214 if called for an interview. The hiring process will not be delayed if selected interviewees are unable to produce a DD214.
Selected applicant must be a Minnesota resident prior to employment start date.
