Job Summary
The primary role of the Software Engineer is to design, develop, and deliver scalable back-end systems that support mission-critical applications. This role focuses heavily on distributed systems, Hadoop-based data processing, microservices architecture, and rapid prototyping.
You'll join a small, high-impact engineering team where you'll help take ideas from concept to working proto@type in fast, iterative cycles. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex backend challenges, building scalable services, and working on systems that directly impact mission operations.
Position Responsibilities
Design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex backend software systems based on documented requirements
Build and maintain data pipelines using Hadoop and related big-data technologies
Design and implement microservices architectures, including service boundaries and inter-service communication patterns
Develop and consume RESTful APIs for backend integrations
Containerize applications using Docker or Podman
Deploy and manage applications in Kubernetes environments
Conduct requirements analysis and translate system-level requirements into technical implementations
Evaluate hardware/software tradeoffs and recommend COTS/GOTS solutions when appropriate
Build and execute simulations in development and test environments
Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
Improve system scalability, latency, and reliability
Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives
Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver incremental value
Operate independently while maintaining strong communication and ownership of deliverables
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Minimum 8 - 12 years of relevant experience in application software development.
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
Strong Java backend development experience
Experience building and consuming RESTful services
Experience with Hadoop or similar big-data processing frameworks
Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Podman
Experience with Kubernetes
Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures
Desired Qualifications
Experience with machine learning workflows
Experience with streaming data pipelines
Experience with batch processing systems
Experience working with MongoDB
Experience working with ArangoDB
Experience working with Redis
Experience working with PostgreSQL
Cloud deployment experience in AWS environments
Experience working in hyper-converged infrastructure environments
Experience with observability tools including logging, metrics, and tracing

Salary Range: $125,000.00 - $270,000.00
The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Determination of official compensation or salary relies on several factors including, but not limited to, level of position, job responsibilities, geographic location, scope of relevant work experience, educational background, certifications, contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, alignment with local internal equity as well as alignment with market data.
