The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Serves as the administrative and financial deputy for the research mission of the School of Nursing. Responsibilities include oversight of research operations including resource allocation, financial management, grants and contracts administration and efficient flow of daily research operations. Establishes policies, procedures and processes for all activities and implements and monitors strategic planning objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Grants Management
Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research and principal investigators in the preparation of grant applications including budget development affecting the research mission and maintains liaison with the Office of Research and Project Administration, federal agencies and others. For funded awards, directs distribution of funds and is responsible for financial reporting.
Assists in applying for renewal or supplemental grants for funding and in preparing progress reports.
Monitors and coordinates all components of the research review process including core meetings, presentations, contract negotiations, site visits, and preparation of reports.
Initiates and participates in meetings, confers with regulatory agencies and University administration.
Develop and maintain detailed analysis of various statistical and financial information used for grant reporting at all levels (internal, external to medical center and university constituents and to local, state and federal agencies).
Collaborates with counsel on the development and execution of sub-award contracts, as needed.
Strategic Budgeting/Reporting
In alignment with the research strategic plan for the SON, develop, defend, and monitor the current and long-range operating and capital budgets of the research mission.
In coordination with the Associate Dean for Research, develop, update and analyze the annual faculty workload budget by activity @type.
Develop, maintain and defend research productivity targets and metrics.
Coordinate and collaborate with multiple constituents including external and internal stakeholders.
Ensure integrity of all data including financial and other.
Make recommendations and advise the Associate Dean for Research on cost containment or expansion opportunities.
Develop and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the financial status compared to budget of operating accounts and externally and internally funded projects.
Develop and analyze financial forecasts.
Revenue/Expenditure Management
Accountable for the integration of multiple sources of revenue including grants, contracts, endowments and gifts to maximize efficiencies with SON resources.
Review and approve all research revenue and expense activity consistent with UR policies.
Oversight of the account reconciliation process including balance sheet accounts.
Make day-to-day interpretations and decisions regarding the accounting treatment of financial transactions.
Plans and manages the operational and developmental resources and support for research activities within the Center for Research Support, including but not limited to personnel, space, supplies, computers and office/research-related materials and equipment.
Center for Research Administration
Manage ongoing and emerging research initiatives. Assess workforce needs, including but not limited to research infrastructure against funded projects/contracts and planned grant submissions. Making necessary recommendations and implementing appropriate processes and policies.
Responsible for fiscal, statistical and analytical reporting to cognizant agencies. Including but not limited to National Institutes of Health and its affiliated agencies, National Cancer Institute, American Heart Association, foundations providing research grants, University Provost and other professional or research organizations.
Monitor and advise research support services provided by the Center for Research Support. Developing processes and policies to meet operational needs.
Facilitate the intersection of senior leadership, faculty, staff and students cultivating relationships and maintaining effective communications throughout the Research mission as well as with external constituents.
Act as an advisor to the Associate Dean for Research with regard to University, State and Federal policies; faculty grant effort reporting; research budgets; etc.
Keep abreast of research trends and policies and adapt changes into planning, control and analytical processes.
Responds on behalf of the Associate Dean for Research to inquiries involving the University as well as departmental policy, regulations, procedures, etc.
Represent the SON on UR research administration committees; including but not limited to the SON Research Council and Research Administration, Research Accounting (RARA).
Personnel Management
Coaches, develops and mentors staff to contribute to optimal research management and fosters an expectation of accountability and recognition for teamwork. Communicates effectively and regularly with staff to set priorities and ensure successful completion of work.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise professional/administrative staff assigned to the Center for Research Support.
Provide initial and ongoing training and development including the use of research administration and financial systems. Provide ongoing feedback including a formal annual performance evaluation. Ensure staff are aware and compliant with University policies and procedures.
Oversees the regulatory reporting (University and federal) required of the Center for Research Support and insures compliance with government regulations and funding requirements.
Assign projects, establish deadlines, and ensure coordination of effort between internal staff and external constituents. Take action on matters of discipline, promotion, salary and other matters.
Manage the system for documentation of effort for the Research Facilitation Group, which provides research project and data management services to SON researchers, and provide quarterly reports to the Associate Dean for Research and the Director, Research Facilitation Group.
Works with principal investigators, research faculty and others on hiring and management of research project staff to include but not limited to creation of job descriptions and effort reporting for team members.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required
Master's degree preferred
5 years of research and grant experience required
or equivalent combination of education and experience required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Leadership, excellent analytical, organizational, communication skills and attention to detail required.
Position requires applicant to have strong Microsoft Office skills.
The applicant needs to have the ability to work in a fast paced environment within tight deadlines required.
Familiarity with federal NIH-grant reporting mechanisms required.
Knowledge of URGEMS, myURHR, Smartsheet, and UR Financials preferred
