Summary The Interior Designer position serves in the Projects section of the Engineering department for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS) located in Richmond, VA. Selectee will performs all major duties to support and maintain in the Interior Design Program for the Central Virginia Health Care System (CVHCS) to include all satellite and leased spaces. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provides complete from concept to installation interior design services to include all satellite and other leased space. Provides plans, consultations, advice, specifications and designs for virtually all spaces involved in new construction, and/or renovation. Develops and maintains a schedule of short and long interior improvement projects for the health care system through 5-year Interior Design Plan and other programs to identify existing future project needs. Originates orders for furnishings, windows treatments, patient cubicle curtains, floor coverings, wall art, ambient lighting and all other interior design related accoutrements. Maintains interior/exterior signage and directional graphics to comply with "Signage Standard Manual", Coordinate's the installation of new and ensures the efficacy of signage/ directional graphics meet the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations ( JCAHO) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and effectively informs/ directs Patients, visitors and staff. Qualifications TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-11 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Interior Designer, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is Experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings. Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior @context. Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. Additional qualifying experience demonstrates a vast knowledge and displays healthcare design experience in interior design and project development. Use of healthcare furnishings and materials and designing patient friendly and safe environments. Generate all documentation for all project procurement requests for planning, designing, and renovating structures such as hospitals & associated specialty medical facilities such as care centers, nursing homes & offices/office buildings. Reports and presents design concepts to leadership. Works rapidly and accurately under the pressure of deadlines. Work independently with no supervisory guidance. Technical experience in design, cost estimating, and project management. Handle a wide variety of problems or situations & require the individual to take action using practical knowledge acquired through considerable work experience, or specialized training. Working, principles, practices, techniques, codes & regulations relating to all the various principles of design and construction as applied to a healthcare setting. Creates architectural floor plans using AutoCad software. ~OR~ EDUCATION: Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. This education must have been obtained at an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Interior Designer position.
