Job Title: Electrical Drafter
Job Description
The Electrical Drafter produces detailed electrical schematics and PCB layouts to support complex engineering projects in a configuration-managed environment. This role works closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure that all designs meet project requirements, adhere to established standards, and support advanced unmanned systems and related technologies.
Responsibilities
Create and update detailed electrical schematics and PCB layouts using specialized electrical drafting and design tools.
Develop accurate drawings and documentation that clearly represent electrical systems, components, and connections.
Maintain all drawings and documentation within a configuration-managed environment, ensuring proper version control and traceability.
Collaborate closely with engineers and other technical staff to ensure designs comply with project specifications, industry standards, and internal guidelines.
Participate in design reviews, present drawings and design decisions, and incorporate feedback from engineers and stakeholders.
Support electrical engineering activities related to research and development by translating conceptual designs into detailed drawings.
Assist with quality inspection activities by interpreting blueprints and ensuring drafted designs align with quality control requirements.
Use measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers, as needed, to verify dimensions and support accurate documentation.
Identify and document nonconforming conditions in drawings or designs and work with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues.
Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and processes to enhance design efficiency and quality.
Essential Skills
Early to mid-career experience in electrical drafting.
Proficiency in electrical engineering concepts and electrical design principles.
Demonstrated experience producing electrical schematics and PCB layouts using professional drafting and CAD tools.
Experience working in a configuration-managed environment with formal document and revision control.
Ability to read, interpret, and produce detailed blueprints and technical drawings.
Familiarity with quality inspection practices, including visual inspection and documentation of nonconforming conditions.
Ability to support quality control activities and ensure drafted designs meet established standards.
Proficiency using basic measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to support accurate documentation.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, documentation, and version control.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience working as a contractor or supplier in defense-related projects.
Familiarity with Costpoint or similar enterprise resource planning tools.
Experience using Jira or similar tools for task tracking and issue management.
Background in research and development environments, especially related to electrical or electronic systems.
Experience supporting quality control, including visual inspection and documentation of nonconforming items.
Exposure to unmanned systems, maritime systems, or other advanced engineering applications.
Relevant technical education or training in electrical engineering technology, drafting, or a related field.
Work Environment
This role supports advanced unmanned systems and related technologies used in defense, marine research, and commercial applications. The work environment combines office-based design activities with close collaboration across engineering, quality, and operations teams. You will work with modern electrical drafting and CAD software, configuration management systems, and tools such as Costpoint and Jira where applicable. Projects involve the design and support of sophisticated systems, including unmanned underwater vehicles and unmanned surface vessels, within a highly technical and mission-driven setting. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $43.00/hr.
