Austin Industries has an outstanding opportunity for a Communications Specialist to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. We need a talented individual to help drive Austin's communication strategy, providing support to Austin Industries and its operating companies. We need a strong writer, a fast learner, someone social media savvy, and a team player able to work with stakeholders at all levels.
Responsibilities:
Support strategic communications plans in support of enterprise, operating company, and shared-service departmental initiatives
Assist, where needed, key partners in business development and marketing to support advertising, proposals, and other customer- and external-facing initiatives
Assist in the creation, editing, and publication of communications, in collaboration with subject-matter experts, across diverse channels, both internal and external:
Internal channels include the internal company news hubs (via SharePoint), Austin's intranet, our printed employee-owner newsletter, and all enterprise email-based communications
Develop, with minimal direction, timely articles that promote Austin initiatives and successes to employee-owners
External channels include company website, company social media profiles.
Assist in creation and publication of social media content
Serve as a communications content advisor, acting as a communications resource for stakeholders across the organization
Support internal customers with graphic design, copyediting, and event photography/videography
Support Austin's bi-annual employee-owner and senior leadership meetings
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills, and an ability to communicate complex topics in a compelling manner
Be self-sufficient and able to handle multiple aspects of a given communication beyond writing; we have some photography and design support, but you must be nimble to meet deadlines
A strong motivation and work ethic in support of Austin's mission and core values
Good editorial judgment and ability to originate relevant content
The ability to self-start, able to work independently and efficiently - get information and direction when needed and GO!
Ability to create and maintain communications and/or social media calendars and posts
A learner's mindset: attention to detail, great listening skills, and an attitude of service to improve and adapt on the fly
Familiarity with email marketing tools such as Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects
Ability to travel as needed
Preferred qualifications include:
Strength in desktop publishing and proficiency in Adobe InDesign
An interest and some useful experience in video production, with a good eye and a basic understanding of video/audio recording best practices
Microsoft SharePoint experience, particularly with modern news sites
Requirements:
A major or bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related field
Minimum one year of corporate communication experience or commensurate internship/collegiate experience
Must have a college and/or professional portfolio that demonstrates your writing, creative, and technical skills
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Experience in Microsoft Office
