ITS currently has an opening for a Data Analyst to join the Data Team at ITS.
The position will report to Idaho's Data Analytics Manager/ Geographic Information Officer at ITS and support a variety of efforts underway to streamline, visualize and analyze data inside ITS, support other state agencies with their data needs and implement a vision where data is managed, governed and leveraged throughout the state to make data-driven decisions.
We are seeking a data professional with strong SQL and Python skills to develop scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, build API integrations across enterprise systems, and automate workflows. Responsibilities include Snowflake and Tableau system administration overseeing user licensing, RBAC, and content governance. This position will also develop visualizations using out-of-the-box tools such as Tableau and Power BI and may at times need to customize visualizations using JavaScript.
The successful candidate will work with a team of data professionals on a large variety of projects and initiatives as well as data management, data governance and work towards a statewide enterprise approach to data. The selected individual will be working in a team environment under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Please note: The successful candidates will be required to pass multiple, comprehensive fingerprint-based background checks specific to the agencies ITS supports.
Examples of Duties:
Work with other members of the Data Team to engage with state employees to conduct an inventory of existing data, data needs, data quality, and business cases tied to data for ITS and the State of Idaho.
Participate in refining, implementing and automating data strategies, including master database design, improving data quality, data governance and data management.
Write SQL scripts to build databases, schemas, tables and workflows in Snowflake Data warehouse.
Build Streamlit apps using Python within the Snowflake environment.
Write Python scripts to connect to various databases and APIs and automate data loads from various sources into Snowflake .
Support ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using SQL and Python as well as ETL tools in Tableau.
Analyze data and develop reports, info-graphs and dashboards to visualize data for decision making, monitoring and communication. Create visualizations using Tableau and PowerBI, and complete custom web development using JavaScript.
Assist and educate other members of the Data Team with development and workflow automation using Python and JavaScript.
Administer Tableau and Snowflake cloud environments, implementing security protocols, and user support. Monitor and maintain daily scheduled jobs and tasks for successful data loads and completions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of:
Data analytics and data management
Typically gained by completing a bachelor's degree in data analytics and data management or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience, OR four to five years of high-level in nature experience directly related to data analytics and data management.
Good knowledge of:
Programming and query languages related to the governance and analysis of data
Typically gained by completing two to four upper division courses or trainings in programming and query languages related to the governance and analysis of data, AND two to four years of mid-level experience using programming and query languages related to the governance and analysis of data.
Data architecture and governance theories
Typically gained by completing two to four upper division courses or trainings in data architecture and governance theories, AND two to four years of mid-level experience closely related to data architecture and governance theories.
Data cleansing and governance
Typically gained by completing two to four upper division coursework or trainings in data cleansing and governance, AND two to four years of mid-level experience closely related to data cleansing and governance.
Experience:
Data dictionaries and metadata; data visualization.
Typically gained by at least two years of experience working with data dictionaries, metadata, and data visualization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong Python and SQL scripting skills
Experience developing system integrations and building automated data pipelines and ETL /ELT processes
Ability to establish secure, resilient connections to RESTful and other enterprise APIs for platforms such as SharePoint, Mimecast, ServiceNow, and Google Analytics.
Experience with Snowflake administration, including RBAC, network policies, SSO, optimizing storage, and general data warehouse operations
Experience creating data visualizations using custom development and out-of-the-box tools such as Tableau and Power BI
Experience in data analytics and statistics using Python and/or R modules
Experience in database design, data management and data governance
Excellent communication skills, a willingness to help others and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
