Summary About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities. Responsibilities Responsible for execution of events, to include, working closely with U.S Military Academy (USMA) leaders, alumni, and contractors during event execution phases, and overseeing all aspects of event execution. Serve as the event and engagement coordinator and office administrator for the Directorate of Academy Advancement (DAA). Assist with processing official travel, Temporary Duty (TDY), utilizing systems, such as, Defense Travel System (DTS). Brief event attendees on event-specific details, and address issues as they occur during events. Order office supplies and equipment with a Government Purchase Card (GPC). Use Microsoft Office for Word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Responsible for key control, timecards, and telephone rosters. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirement described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, which includes: 1) Utilizing automated software and/or systems to prepare correspondence, reports, or other documents; 2) Coordinating meetings or events, such as, alumni events; 3) Coordinating travel arrangements or preparing travel documents; AND 4) Compiling and/or presenting data for appointments, meetings, and/or briefings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can @type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position is not eligible for regular and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework.
