Summary The incumbent serves as a Supervisory Program Specialist (organizational title is Credentialing and Privileging Manager) and is assigned to the Medical Staff Office, which is under the Chief of Staff (COS) at VAMC. Responsibilities Provides consulting and guidance to local leadership and C&P employees on all matters pertaining to the facility's C&P program including Healthcare Professionals' C&P; facility Scope of Practices; National and VTSN Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs); Veterans' Administration Memorandums; VHA requirements, Handbooks, Directives and Policies; TJC Standards; quality assurance assessments; and risk management and malpractice claim action evaluations. Determines appropriate actions, including those resulting from VISN and local level reviews, initial and recredentialing processes, including, but not limited to primary source verifications; reporting and data trends, identified issues that require further review, and electronic credentialing database and clinical privilege maintenance. Serves as the primary consultant for the facility's C&P program; analyzes program audit results; interprets facility quarterly report card data; researches provider credentialing requirements; identifies potential privileging issues; drafts facility Medical Staff Bylaws updates and revisions; interprets and explains new regulatory requirements, and VHA requirements, procedures and processes; contributes to development of local policies; ensures program compliance; monitors National Practitioner Databank reporting and queries results; prepares Federal and State Medical Boards reports; tracks State Licensing Board reporting; communicates telehealth provider requirements; manages VetPro access levels and training; assists with Joint Commission surveys, and Office of Inspector General and Government Accountability Office reviews. Coordinates with Service Chiefs and service level administrative teams for annual Committee(s) review of clinical privileges and scope of practice forms; reviews clinical privileges and scope of practices for accuracy, setting specific indicator and signature appropriations as required for VAMC compliance with Joint Commission Standards; updates clinical privilege forms to reflect procedures added or deleted. Coordinates with telehealth program team to ensure compliance. Serves as the Point of Contact (POC) and SME for credentialing updates, Human Resources, providers and hiring services; telehealth teams to ensure C&P requirements are completed prior to patient care activity; State Licensing Board Reporting; electronic credentialing database actions and training; VetPro quarterly access reports; Our Providers quarterly certifications; provider and credentialer VetPro accounts. Performs as the VAMC SME on the following topics, including, but not limited to credentialing of licensed independent practitioners (LIP) and Non-LIPs; privileging and privileging related matters including focused and ongoing professional practice; adverse privileging actions; Reporting to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB); and reporting to State Licensing Boards (SLB). Provides SME guidance to VAMC leadership related to credentialing, privileging, adverse privileging actions, NPDB reporting, and SLB reporting. Monitors and audits the VAMC C&P program utilizing VetPro reports, mandatory auditing and reporting tools. Demonstrates expertise in utilization of the VetPro credentialing system including knowledge of the credentialing and privileging process, documentation of primary source verifications, and how to audit credentialing files and reporting functions. Ensures national level reporting requirements are accurately completed including, but not limited to, quarterly security reports, quarterly accuracy certification of the Our Provider's website, and accuracy of the VA/DoD shared provider registry. Provides regularly scheduled committee reports (e.g. Medical Executive Committee, Quality, Safety and Value Committee, Healthcare Delivery Committee) outlining best practices, system improvements, areas requiring improvement, action plans for corrections, and identified trends in findings from ongoing monitoring. Participates in the monitoring and follow up for issue briefs concerning C&P issues. Monitors C&P program resources to ensure programs are appropriately staffed including succession planning, mentoring and training of new C&P specialists, and preparation and implementation of action plans when vulnerabilities are identified.
