Devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, roads and traffic systems, equipment and facilities, providing custodial services, and collecting, transporting and disposing municipal solid and yard waste through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Perform semi-skilled labor requiring technical repairs, operation of light-duty equipment and power tools and/or leading the work of others performing general labor or custodial work. May also assist with general maintenance tasks in addition to their primary assignment. There is an established operational routine to be followed and decisions are limited primarily to choosing how quickly the work is performed and the sequence in which the work is performed to meet established standards and deadlines.
Responsible for leading a crew, to include assigning and inspecting work; performing cleaning services; performing technical work, service checks, and preventative maintenance on electronic equipment and vehicles; administering and scheduling repairs; operating light-duty equipment and power tools; installing and maintaining equipment and related devices; picking up residential trash; maintaining supplies; taking inventory and stocking equipment; researching information; preparing routine reports; maintaining records and databases; and performing related duties.
Duties/Responsibilities
Coordinates and/or performs custodial and collection operations including assigning, inspecting, and/or performing cleaning operations; as assigned, picks up residential trash, cleans and maintains floors, maintains grounds, cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, and sets up and tears down events.
Performs technical work, service checks, and preventative maintenance on electronic and other applicable equipment, systems, and vehicles; administers and schedules repairs; tracks equipment recalls; replaces defective equipment or parts; and operates light-duty equipment, power tools.
Maintains supply inventory; stocks equipment; gathers and compiles information, prepares routine reports; maintains records and databases; and proofs work for accuracy and completeness.
Provides customer service; responds to customer questions and concerns; resolves or escalates issues; and provides information on policies and procedures.
Positions assigned to custodial services may be responsible for:
Leading a custodial crew and perform cleaning services including maintaining facility cleanliness.
Maintaining custodial supplies.
Assigning and inspecting work.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
Three years of custodial service, equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience based on assignment.
A valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is required for radio installation, custodial services, cemetery services and traffic systems assignments that include driving between multiple facilities and/or locations to perform work or transfer equipment.
Additional Preferred Skills
Experience with operating automated floor maintenance equipment, i.e. self-driven floor scrubber buffing machines, etc.
Must be willing and able to visit various sites to evaluate performance
Previous experience creating work schedules (or schedule of duties) for your work unit or work group
