Job Title: Electrical EngineerJob Description
This hands-on electrical engineering role focuses on understanding electronic designs, developing and executing test strategies, and supporting compliance and production testing. The position sits at the intersection of design review, test development, and validation, rather than pure design. You will work closely with complex low-noise analog and mixed-signal circuits, creating practical test solutions that ensure reliable, high-quality products recognized and used worldwide.
Responsibilities
Review electronic circuits designed by others and determine how they should be tested, including defining appropriate test approaches and coverage.
Analyze electronic schematics to understand what each circuit is doing, why it was designed that way, and how best to validate its performance.
Identify and specify the instrumentation, test circuitry, and fixtures required to properly test a wide range of circuits, with a focus on low-noise analog designs.
Design, build, and maintain test fixtures for existing products and develop new fixtures to support new circuit designs.
Develop and execute detailed test strategies and test plans for validation, compliance, and production testing.
Support compliance testing activities, including CE testing performed in-house, ensuring products meet relevant standards.
Participate in EMI/EMC testing by coordinating with external test houses, being present during testing, and contributing to mitigation strategies.
Coordinate logistics and scheduling with test houses and internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of compliance and validation activities.
Respond in real time during testing by making on-the-fly mitigations or adjustments when issues arise, in collaboration with design engineers.
Create and maintain test scripts, with a strong preference for using Python, to support targeted test automation and repeatable validation procedures.
Apply scripting or programming logic to automate key portions of test workflows where appropriate, while maintaining a focus on targeted rather than mass-production automation.
Perform hands-on testing using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and other electrical test equipment to validate circuit performance.
Support production testing in a high-mix, low-volume environment, helping ensure that tens of devices per week are tested thoroughly and efficiently.
Work with circuits such as low-noise analog circuits, current sources, temperature controllers, voltage sources (generally under 100V), and some mixed-signal designs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret test results, troubleshoot issues, and feed findings back into design and process improvements.
Document test methods, test fixtures, and results clearly to support repeatability, traceability, and continuous improvement.
Contribute to a flexible, outcomes-focused culture by managing your own workload, communicating progress, and delivering high-quality results.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience in electrical engineering with a strong focus on electronics and circuit understanding, ideally 3+ years of relevant experience (flexible for the right candidate).
Base understanding of electronic schematics, including the ability to interpret what a circuit is doing and why it was designed that way.
Practical experience using standard electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and power supplies.
Ability to develop and execute test strategies for electronic circuits, including validation, compliance, and production testing.
Experience using at least one ECAD tool; familiarity with Altium is preferred, but experience with any ECAD tool is acceptable.
Capability to review circuits designed by others and determine appropriate test methods, instrumentation, and test circuitry.
Ability to design and maintain test fixtures for both existing and new circuits.
Familiarity with EMI/EMC concepts and testing; direct hands-on experience is not mandatory but the ability to work within these requirements is expected.
Experience generating test plans and coordinating with external test houses for compliance and validation activities.
Ability to write or maintain test scripts, with strong preference for Python, or demonstrated scripting/programming logic experience.
Comfort working with low-noise analog circuits, current sources, temperature controllers, and voltage sources (generally under 100V).
Strong hands-on electronics skills and practical circuit troubleshooting capability, especially in low-noise analog environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with mixed-signal circuits that combine analog and digital elements.
Exposure to limited RF work, even if RF is not a core focus.
Background in CE compliance testing, including familiarity with related FCC considerations.
Experience participating in or supporting EMI/EMC testing in collaboration with test houses.
Prior involvement in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.
Comfort working in rapidly growing technology companies and adapting to evolving processes.
Interest in or exposure to the quantum technology ecosystem and precision electronics used in advanced scientific and industrial applications.
Willingness to learn new tools and methods, including Altium and specific internal test frameworks, with training provided where fundamentals are strong.
Work Environment
This role is a hybrid position that typically requires a minimum of three days per week onsite, with a laptop provided to support remote work. The organization follows a flexible, trust-based work culture that focuses on outcomes rather than hours, and does not operate as a clock-punching environment. Core hours on in-office days are 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with flexible start and end times, and employees can flex hours across the week to accommodate personal needs. Travel requirements are low, with less than two weeks per year, mostly local to the Longmont area and essentially no out-of-state travel. The engineering and production environment is centered around high-mix, low-volume manufacturing, with tens of devices shipped per week and testing that blends manual validation with targeted automation rather than mass-production automation. You will work daily with standard electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, and power supplies, as well as ECAD tools like Altium or similar platforms. The company culture is strong and well-regarded, operating as a rapidly growing technology organization with deep involvement in the quantum industry and recognized credibility, including visits from state leadership and a reputation as a leader in the quantum supply chain. The office environment is informal and flexible, with a pet- and family-friendly policy that allows dogs and occasionally children in the office, subject to change if health or allergy concerns arise. Dress is generally casual and practical for a laboratory and engineering setting, reflecting a collaborative, hands-on, and outcome-oriented workplace.
