Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Manufacturing Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Manufacturing Engineering organization. This leadership role is located in Redondo Beach CA.
The Manager, Manufacturing Engineer 2 will lead a manufacturing engineering team responsible for integrating engineering definition, product requirements, and manufacturing planning data into shop floor execution systems, manufacturing work instructions in support of production operations.
This role supports the manufacturing engineering requirements of a technologically advanced and highly diversified assembly line responsible for producing multiple configurations across all three F35 Air Vehicle variants. This role operates within a high-paced, high-rate production center, requiring strong leadership, technical depth, and the ability to drive performance and quality in a fast moving, delivery-driven environment.
The manager will have direct budget responsibility, and day to day Management for approximately 15-20 Engineers, which will include the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary Manufacturing Engineering representative supporting the integration of engineering definition, product requirements, and configuration changes into manufacturing work instructions, visual aids, and shop floor execution systems.
Provide direct leadership overseeing the full Build-to-Print (BTP) planning lifecycle, including planning coordination, release execution, change incorporation, configuration alignment, and performance metric tracking to ensure timely and accurate production support.
Ensure all BTP planning activities, manufacturing instructions, and associated processes remain compliant with internal planning governance, configuration management standards and quality management system expectations.
Manage team performance through the development and monitoring of key operational metrics, including work backlog, release timelines, production support responsiveness, quality escapes and planning accuracy
Partner closely with Design Engineering, Production Operations, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and program leadership to support rate readiness objectives.
Develop and maintain production plans, metrics and performance indicators, ensuring visibility to leadership on key trends.
Foster a culture of ethical excellence and accountability through active coaching, development, and performance feedback of assigned manufacturing engineers.
Manufacturing Engineers for Aeronautics Systems are expected to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems.
They are problem solvers who have the ability to provide results that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives.
The ideal candidate will be able to work individually as well as collaborate with a diverse group of individuals, work tactically, but with an eye towards future strategy, and exhibit solid communication skills while acting as the technical representative voice for Operations.
This position will offer a 1st shift, 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off, phenomenal learning opportunities, exposure to a wide variety of projects and customers, and a very friendly team environment. Candidate should be aware that occasional off-Friday work may be required to support program priorities, production needs, or critical delivery milestones. Additionally, this position is expected to support periodic travel, primarily to Palmdale, CA to support production operations, and cross-site collaboration.

Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor's Degree AND 5 years of engineering experience in production assembly/fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing OR Master's Degree AND 3 years of engineering experience in production assembly/fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing
Must have 2 year of prior management/leadership experience in related field
Must have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance (US Citizenship required) as well as the ability to obtain and maintain Program Special Access
Preferred Qualifications:
STEM Degree (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
Active Secret Clearance
Prior leadership experience leading Manufacturing Engineering, or BTP/Integration teams
Experience integrating engineering requirements into Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and shop floor work instructions.
Strong working knowledge with SAP, including familiarity with: Material Masters, Bill of Materials (BOM), Engineering Bill of Material (EBOM), Order Bill of Materials (OBOM)
Familiarity with configuration management and revision control processes
Strong communication and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions across multiple organizations and levels of leadership
Experience in succession planning, talent development, and performance management
Experience with CATIA V5
Primary Level Salary Range: $133,100.00 - $199,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
