Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Firefighter (Basic Life Support), GS-0081-07, position US Army Aviation Center of Excellence located in Fort Rucker, Alabama. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Responsibilities Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade. Rescue operations. Detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards. Operation of fire communications equipment. Controlling hazardous materials incidents. Developing, implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience (1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military installation, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) Rescue operations; (3) Detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) Operation of fire communications equipment; (5) Controlling hazardous materials incident and/or Developing implementing or providing training. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). In addition to Specialized Experience, the position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, Valid State Driver's License, Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Pumper and ARFF Airport Firefighter, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Basic. This position requires that the individual possess and maintain the following DoD IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications.NOTE: For each certification listed above, you MUST submit a copy of all licenses and certifications with your application package, or you will be rated in-eligible. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a(n) Safety and Occupational Health Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Relocation Incentive may be authorized if in the best interest of the government. Recruitment Incentives may be authorized if in the best interest of the government. Retention Incentives may be authorized if in the best interest of the government. If a MSP applicant is determined best qualified and selected, placement must be at the full performance level for priority consideration. You may claim military spouse preference (MSP).
