Description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support core accounting activities for a client in Richmond, Virginia. This position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and brings strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to stay organized in a busy environment. The person in this role will contribute to accurate financial reporting, routine reconciliations, and close-related activities while partnering with internal stakeholders to keep accounting operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

Record and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial data within the general ledger.

Perform regular reconciliations for bank activity and balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.

Contribute to monthly and annual close cycles by preparing support schedules and helping finalize account balances.

Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks to promote timely and accurate transaction processing.

Generate financial reports and provide support for reviewing trends, fluctuations, and budget-to-actual differences.

Uphold accounting policies and internal control standards by reviewing transactions for accuracy and procedural compliance.

Participate in audit preparation by organizing documentation and responding to requests for financial information.

Support assigned projects and additional accounting initiatives based on departmental priorities.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

At least 5 years of accounting experience in a business environment that requires close attention to detail.

Hands-on experience with sales tax, journal entries, general ledger accounting, month-end close, and account reconciliations.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software platforms.

Ability to manage detailed work accurately while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Effective communication skills with a practical, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.

Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities with consistent attention to detail.
