Position Summary:
The College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Biostatistician/Data Scientist in Boca Raton, FL.
This role supports the Department of Population Health's community-engaged research portfolio by collaborating with faculty and communities to support data analysis, supervision of data staff, analysis planning and implementation in biostatistics, epidemiology, and data science, and consultation and collaboration with faculty and trainees around statistical implementation.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact biomedical, translational, clinical, social-behavioral, and public health research that has direct impact on health, across a diverse portfolio of studies while working closely with investigators, statisticians, programmers, and interdisciplinary collaborators.
This role is ideal for candidates who are intellectually curious, sincerely collaborative, detail-oriented, and eager to grow their expertise in modern statistical methods within a dynamic academic medical and health science research environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Prepare and format datasets for analysis across a variety of biomedical, translational, clinical, social-behavioral, and population health research projects.
Maintain and curate project databases in collaboration with team members.
Develop statistical analysis plans (SAP) and independently perform statistical analyses at all levels.
Write codes (e.g., R, SAS) to design analytic datasets, validate outputs, identify errors, and ensure data integrity.
Perform advanced programming tasks such as data transposition and macro development.
Learn and apply new statistical methodologies as project needs evolve.
Document analytic processes and generate clear summaries of findings for investigators and collaborators. Present results in written and verbal formats to a variety of audiences and collaborators.
Contribute to manuscript and grant development, including drafting statistical methods sections with guidance from senior statisticians. Contribute to authoring statistical and methods sections of grants and publications.
Participate in project meetings, provide analytic insight, and help identify next steps for ongoing work.
Collaborate effectively with programmers, statisticians, and investigators to ensure accurate and unbiased interpretation of results.
Develop project timelines, forecast analytic effort, and manage responsibilities across multiple concurrent studies.
Ensure compliance with institutional standards, statistical best practices, and sponsor guidelines for data sharing (e.g., NIH).
Handle confidential research data with the highest level of professionalism and security.
Develop and manage study tools and workflows (e.g., recruitment plans, participant tracking, field protocols, interview/focus group guides, survey distribution plans).
Support onboarding and coordination of students/trainees on projects (as assigned), including task supervision and training on project protocols.
Maintain accurate project records and ensure compliance with sponsor requirements (progress reporting, documentation, record retention, data sharing).

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
Areas of specialization: biostatistics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related quantitative field.
Demonstrated experience conducting complex analyses in biostatistics, epidemiology, and data science required.
Strong project management skills, including coordinating multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and documenting progress required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with various community stakeholders required.
Proficiency with standard office and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams/Zoom, shared file systems) required.
Experience with compliance regulations including IACUC, IRB, and biosafety protocols required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of research ethics and human subjects protections; experience supporting IRB processes.
Salary:
$60,000 - $70,000 annually.
