Job Description
The Electrical BIM Designer supports complex industrial and commercial construction projects by creating, maintaining, and coordinating detailed 3D electrical models. This role requires strong proficiency in Revit, hands-on experience with LOD 350-400 electrical work, and a solid understanding of electrical design and trades. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure model accuracy, support BIM and VDC processes, and provide remote coordination to field operations, helping to deliver well-coordinated, constructible designs.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain accurate, detailed 3D electrical models in Revit that comply with project requirements, BIM standards, and industry best practices.
Create electrical layouts including conduit and cable tray designs suitable for industrial and commercial construction projects.
Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other external stakeholders to ensure consistent and coordinated models across all disciplines.
Perform clash detection using industry-standard BIM coordination software to identify and resolve conflicts between electrical systems and other building systems.
Work in close coordination with MEP teams to produce integrated, clash-free designs that support constructability and field installation.
Provide remote coordination and support to field operations, integrating 3D scans and field data into project models to maintain alignment with on-site conditions.
Prepare, update, and manage technical documentation, including drawings, schedules, and coordinated shop drawings required by project teams.
Produce and coordinate sleeve drawings, embedded field points, and related documentation to support accurate installation in the field.
Ensure the accuracy, quality, and completeness of all BIM models and associated documentation, adhering to project standards, timelines, and quality control procedures.
Support BIM and VDC workflows by maintaining organized model structures, file naming conventions, and documentation practices.
Stay current with advancements in BIM and VDC technologies and methodologies, and apply this knowledge to continuously improve modeling processes and project outcomes.
Use digital collaboration tools and platforms to enhance communication, model accessibility, and coordination among distributed project teams.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years of experience in VDC/BIM modeling, with a focus on building systems.
Strong proficiency in Revit (rated 8/10), including the ability to create, manage, and coordinate detailed 3D electrical models.
Hands-on experience with LOD 350-400 modeling for electrical systems.
Experience in electrical design, including conduit routing and cable tray layouts.
Experience working on industrial or commercial construction projects.
Proficiency in BIM processes and workflows for design and construction coordination.
Familiarity with clash detection tools and processes used in BIM coordination.
Ability to produce and coordinate sleeve drawings, embedded field points, and shop drawings.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD for reviewing and coordinating 2D drawings alongside BIM models.
Ability to collaborate effectively with MEP teams and other disciplines in a virtual environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to model accuracy and quality.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a project-driven environment.
Solid understanding of construction practices and how BIM models support field operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in electrical trades, providing practical insight into constructability and installation requirements (preferred).
Experience with BIM coordination platforms and collaboration tools for model sharing and communication.
Familiarity with VDC-focused organizations and workflows dedicated to virtual design and construction.
Ability to interpret and apply project BIM standards and execution plans.
Strong communication skills to work effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and field personnel.
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote setting while remaining responsive to project needs.
