Electrical Engineer I - Substation (Entry-Level)
Our Substation Engineering team ensures our substation equipment and controls meet the needs for our transmission and distribution systems and infrastructure today and tomorrow. We are hiring an Electrical Engineer I to perform electrical engineering design work for our substations, along with specifying and procuring substation equipment and materials. You will also have the opportunity to lead project and construction management for substation-related projects for our Electric Planning, Electric Construction, Operations, and Energy Supply teams. The work that you will do ensures the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to over 500,000 customers in the Pikes Peak Region!

Engineering Design Responsibilities
Assisting with reviewing and documenting engineering and construction standards under the guidance of senior engineers
Developing foundational knowledge of substation equipment and design practices through training and project assistance
Attending cross-functional meetings to observe technical discussions and gain awareness of organizational processes
Supporting the preparation of design documentation and drawings under supervision, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Assisting with technical tasks during project phases such as design and construction with close oversight from experienced engineers
Project Management Responsibilities
Facilitating project meetings and effectively communicating between stakeholders and project teams
Assisting with gathering data and preparing documentation to support the development of project scope, schedule, and budget
Supporting project execution activities by tracking tasks and milestones, and escalating issues to project leads as needed
Assisting with tracking and organizing materials and equipment lists, and coordinating with procurement or warehouse teams
Maintaining project documentation and assisting with tracking changes and updates while reporting progress to project teams
Procurement Management Responsibilities
Coordinating with our procurement department to purchase equipment and services through bid and/or proposal processes
Assisting with drafting portions of statements of work and compiling materials lists based on project specifications
Helping track project schedules and contractor timelines, and reporting any deviations or concerns to project leads
Who You Are
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required - an emphasis in Power Systems is valued
Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required - the essential functions of this job require operating a Colorado Springs Utilities' vehicle
Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, take initiative, and strong detail orientation
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be of only negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those is negligible.Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
