Portage Lake Construction is looking for a reliable and experienced Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. You will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing, and repairing our fleet of construction machinery, trucks, portable power tools and equipment. This role operates partly in our shop and partly in the field, traveling to job sites to resolve issues quickly. Please note this position could require general construction labor as part of the workload.
Key Responsibilities
Perform scheduled maintenance on heavy equipment (oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks).
Troubleshoot and repair engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brake systems, and powertrain components.
Travel to various job sites to perform emergency repairs on equipment like excavators, dozers, and loaders.
Perform basic welding and torch cutting to repair buckets, attachments, and structural components.
Maintain accurate service records and actively communicate maintenance schedules and downtimes.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
Qualifications
A minimum of one year of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic or equivalent schooling.
High school diploma or equivalent, and technical school training is a plus.
Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics and use diagnostic software.
Ability to maintain records and order needed parts and tools.
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., work in confined spaces, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
To be considered for this role, candidates must have the ability to drive vehicles with manual transmission and the ability to operate heavy machinery. We are looking for an individual who is internally motivated and capable of handling a variety of work environments with limited oversight and who can work flexible hours.
