Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This mid-level Electrical Engineer role focuses on the design, development, and analysis of electronic systems for utility room products. You will contribute across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and circuit design through testing, validation, and documentation. The position combines hands-on engineering work with firmware maintenance, PCB layout, and continuous improvement of product quality and engineering procedures.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and analyze electronic systems for utility room products, including both analog and digital circuits.
Perform engineering design evaluations to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.
Process Engineering Change Requests and implement approved design changes accurately and efficiently.
Maintain and update firmware for existing products, ensuring stability, performance, and compatibility.
Recommend and implement alterations to designs and development processes to improve product quality and engineering procedures.
Create, update, and maintain work instructions and standard operating procedures related to electrical design and testing.
Conduct testing and validation of new and existing designs, including functional, performance, and compliance testing.
Analyze post-test data, identify issues or trends, and propose corrective actions or design improvements.
Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, layouts, test reports, and diagrams.
Design PCB layouts and schematics using appropriate CAD tools, ensuring manufacturability and reliability.
Develop test fixtures and related hardware needed to support verification, validation, and production testing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and testing, to support smooth product introduction and ongoing manufacturing.
Work independently according to project requirements, managing assigned tasks and taking responsibility for project results.
Support efforts to design and test products in alignment with regulatory requirements such as UL, CE/ISO, and FDA where applicable.
Contribute to EMI/EMC-conscious PCB design and participate in related testing activities as needed.
Essential Skills
3-5 years of experience in analog and digital circuit design and microcontroller programming.
Hands-on experience with embedded firmware development in C and C++.
Experience with object-oriented programming for embedded or related applications.
Proficiency with PCB design and layout using CAD tools (such as OrCAD or similar software).
Strong background in circuit design and schematic capture.
Experience with PCB layout and design, including printed circuit board hardware considerations.
Ability to design test fixtures and related hardware to support testing and validation.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
Strong attention to detail in design, documentation, and testing activities.
Effective time management and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
Collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork with engineering, testing, and production teams.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to diagnose issues and develop robust solutions.
Ability to work independently according to project requirements and take ownership of deliverables.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience designing regulated products for standards such as UL, CE/ISO, or FDA is desirable.
Experience with EMI/EMC-conscious PCB design and related testing is desirable.
Familiarity with the full product lifecycle, from concept through production, is beneficial.
Comfort working with various PCB design software tools and adapting to different CAD environments.
Work Environment
The role is based in a modern, updated facility with new offices and a quiet cubicle environment for the engineering team. You will primarily work in an office and cubicle setting, with regular exposure to testing and production areas to support hands-on validation and collaboration with manufacturing. The environment supports focus-driven engineering work while providing opportunities to engage with the full product lifecycle, from design through production.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Melville, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $46.00/hr.
