Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer will provide hands-on support on the production floor to troubleshoot manufacturing and process issues, develop and optimize fabrication and assembly processes, and drive continuous improvement across operations. This role partners closely with production, quality, engineering, sales, and operations teams to ensure high product quality, on-time delivery, and a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Provide daily hands-on support on the production floor, troubleshooting manufacturing and process issues in real time.
Develop, optimize, and document manufacturing processes for coil fabrication, brazing, welding, and assembly.
Partner with production and quality teams to ensure product quality, on-time delivery, and adherence to safety standards.
Create, update, and maintain work instructions, routings, and process documentation to ensure consistency and clarity.
Analyze production data such as cycle time, scrap, and rework to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Lead or support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, waste reduction, and process flow improvements.
Support new product introduction by developing manufacturing methods and contributing to design for manufacturability.
Assist in the design, selection, and improvement of tooling, fixturing, and equipment to increase efficiency and consistency.
Work with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and overall equipment effectiveness.
Collaborate with engineering, sales, and operations on custom product builds and process feasibility assessments.
Contribute to continuous improvement and kaizen activities focused on material flow, process mapping, and process flow diagrams.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering or closely related engineering role.
Hands-on experience supporting production floors and troubleshooting manufacturing and process issues.
Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes for fabrication, welding, brazing, and assembly operations.
Proficiency in lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, waste reduction, and continuous improvement.
Ability to analyze production data such as cycle time, scrap, and rework to drive process improvements.
Experience creating and maintaining work instructions, routings, and process documentation.
Knowledge of process flow, process mapping, and process flow diagrams.
Strong collaboration skills with production, quality, engineering, and operations teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Background in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering.
Experience with material flow optimization and layout improvements.
Participation in kaizen events or structured continuous improvement activities.
Exposure to design for manufacturability and new product introduction processes.
Ability to work effectively on custom product builds and unique process requirements.
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on approach in a manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
This role is based in a very clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a welding shop located at the back and product flow moving toward the front for final shipping. The environment supports second shift (approximately 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and a split shift (approximately 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). The facility features an upgraded, modern cafeteria and a well-equipped onsite gym that employees can use, with health insurance incentives available for logging time there. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chesterfield, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $50.48/hr.
