This position assists all schools in Minnesota in providing a safe, welcoming learning environment.

This position drives school safety initiatives through data analysis, guidance, planning direction, development of materials, training, and presentations.

This position advances comprehensive all hazard school safety initiatives by fostering relationships, collaboration, and partnerships with schools, local, state, and federal agencies.

This position enhances the School Safety Center activities by providing technical assistance, guidance, leadership, and coordination of all stakeholders on current school safety best practices in compliance with federal and state requirements.

The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E-Verify.

Minimum Qualifications

The School Safety Coordinator must have at least three (3) * Three years of demonstrated experience and working knowledge in the following areas:

Experience working in any of the following areas: education, child development, behavioral science or criminal justice or closely related fields.

Providing training to adult learners and public presentations; leading work groups and working with diverse teams; developing programs/projects to include implementation, management, and analysis.

Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking to a wide variety of stakeholders and community partners.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with conceptual guidance.

Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from underserved communities and diverse backgrounds.*An associates degree may substitute for six months of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for twelve (12) months of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, Child Development, Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management or closely related field.

State or Federal Emergency Management Certificate.

Experience with juvenile justice or education system.

Current or past MN POST licensure.

Current or past professional licensure.

Experience in program evaluation.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file folders and small tools. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
