Summary This position serves as Laborer in Environmental Management Services (EMS). Under the direct supervision of Supervisory Environmental Care Specialist (ECS) and EMS supervisors as needed. The laborers perform a variety of duties including inventory, disassemble and reassemble furniture, moving furniture and equipment, installing equipment, transporting, and stocking supplies and equipment by hand and various moving devices. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include: Maintains service Safety Data Sheet binders, performing annual chemical inventories and ensuring SDS sheets are kept current. Follow federal, state and local codes concerning health, safety and the environment within the performance of his/her duties. Comply with health, safety and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. Receives and shelves incoming supplies to ensure shelves are stocked in preparation for issuance. Cleans and organizes work and storage spaces. Maintaining an adequate level of stock items by initiating requisitions on a weekly and as needed basis. Reads simple instructions for assembly and moving any necessary heavy medical equipment. Follows instructions and follows through to completion with a minimal amount of supervision. Uses instructions to assemble, disassemble, and move furniture and equipment. Must be able to disassemble and reassemble furniture to be moved such as attaching returns to desks, overhead units to desks, etc. Install artwork, bulletin boards and dry erase boards. Equipment utilized include power drills, hammers, screw drivers, pliers, and other various tools. Operate moving equipment such as appliance dollies, flat carts, carpet dollies, power jacks and pallet jacks. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm (Subject to change based on the need) Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operating)/PD03280A Physical Requirements: Physical exertion in movements such as, but not limited to, handling supplies and furniture, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, walking, sitting, standing and moderate to heavy lifting. The movements are encountered in duties such as operating moving equipment including forklifts, hand trucks, dollies and pushing/pulling flat carts, pallet jacks, and power equipment. Total weight of pushing and pulling said items range from 25-100 lbs. Performs tasks and other strenuous laborer duties that require climbing ladders and considerable walking throughout the facility. Also working at a rapid pace for long periods. Working Conditions: Work is generally performed where temperatures and lighting are controlled and maintained; however, there are times when work is performed outside or in a warehouse moving and pulling furniture for deliveries. Mishandling of the equipment, tools, and tasks may result in serious injuries. Warehouse may be without air conditioning, which makes the environment uncomfortably warm or cold depending on the season. Environment outside includes driving along roads to transport furniture throughout various system locations and may encounter rain and other inclement weather factors. Must be able to perform duties in a very busy environment, working around delicate equipment without disturbing patients and staff. Required to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety regulations to protect themselves and other employees. Required to be familiar with and observe all regulations governing the proper storage of all hazardous and inflammable supplies and special equipment to safeguard fellow workers from danger, and to properly protect and safeguard government property and buildings.
