Job Description
The Medical Assistant supports a single physician by providing comprehensive clinical care to a high-volume panel of adult and geriatric patients. This role includes performing full patient workups, obtaining detailed medical histories, taking manual vital signs, drawing blood, and reconciling medications for a primarily 55+ and underserved patient population. The Medical Assistant plays a key role in ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality, compassionate care throughout the clinic day.
Responsibilities
Room approximately 18-22 patients per day for one physician, maintaining steady and efficient patient flow.
Perform full patient workups, including collecting comprehensive previous medical history and current health concerns.
Obtain accurate manual vital signs and document findings clearly and promptly in the medical record.
Perform blood draws using both straight needle and butterfly techniques, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Draw blood from adult and geriatric patients, including those with more challenging venous access.
Conduct thorough medication reconciliation at each visit, confirming current medications and dosages with patients.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures according to clinical protocols.
Support the physician during patient visits by ensuring all necessary information and documentation are complete and available.
Utilize the electronic medical record (EMR) system to document patient information, procedures, and updates as required.
Provide compassionate, respectful care to a primarily 55+ and underserved patient population.
Follow all clinical, safety, and infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Collaborate with clinical team members to ensure timely patient appointments, typically scheduled in 30-minute intervals.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic.
Proficient phlebotomy skills, including blood draws using both straight needle and butterfly techniques.
Demonstrated hands-on experience performing blood draws on adult patients.
Ability to obtain and document comprehensive medical histories and perform full patient workups.
Skill in taking and recording accurate manual vital signs.
Strong attention to detail for medication reconciliation and clinical documentation.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
High school diploma or equivalent education (GED).
Graduation from a nationally accredited program in Medical Assisting, Patient Care Technician, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic.
Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume clinical setting while maintaining quality and compassion in patient care.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with geriatric patients, particularly those aged 55 and older, is a plus.
Experience serving underserved patient populations is highly beneficial.
Prior experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) system is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with patients and support the care team.
Ability to remain organized and calm while managing a steady flow of patient appointments.
Commitment to providing respectful, patient-centered care in a clinical setting.
Work Environment
This position is based in a busy outpatient clinical setting supporting one physician with a schedule of approximately 18-22 patients per day. Patient appointments are typically scheduled in 30-minute intervals, requiring efficient time management and steady workflow. Standard work hours follow daytime clinic shifts, generally from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role involves frequent direct patient contact, including geriatric and underserved populations, and regular use of clinical equipment for vital signs and phlebotomy, as well as an electronic medical record (EMR) system for documentation. The environment emphasizes professionalism, teamwork, and compassionate care while maintaining clinical and safety standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
