Job Description
This position is for an experienced Site Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations on a large commercial interior demolition and redevelopment project in Bristol, CT. The role focuses on being present in the field, coordinating multiple trades, maintaining strict safety standards, and driving the construction schedule, with minimal client-facing and administrative responsibilities. It offers the opportunity to work on a high-profile, long-term commercial redevelopment project within a stable, local work geography along the New Haven-Hartford corridor.
Responsibilities
Maintain a consistent daily on-site presence and oversee all field construction activities for the project.
Coordinate subcontracted trades, including demolition, mechanical, and electrical contractors, to ensure efficient and safe progress.
Enforce OSHA and site-specific safety standards and ensure all workers adhere to established safety protocols.
Conduct site orientations for new workers and provide ongoing safety oversight throughout the project.
Track daily manpower levels, trade activities, and overall site progress to keep the project on schedule.
Produce accurate daily activity and safety logs documenting work performed, issues encountered, and safety observations.
Drive short-term and overall project schedules in coordination with the broader project team, adjusting plans as needed.
Read and interpret demolition drawings and basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plans to guide field execution.
Identify potential issues early and proactively resolve field conflicts before they impact safety, quality, or schedule.
Participate in internal coordination meetings and provide clear, concise field updates to the project team.
Use tablets, iPads, and construction field software to access digital drawings, update logs, and support field coordination.
Manage subcontractor performance in the field, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to project requirements.
Support phased interior demolition and redevelopment activities in a large commercial facility, adapting to evolving project phases.
Essential Skills
OSHA 30 certification.
At least 5 years of experience as a Site Superintendent on commercial construction projects.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple trades and drive construction schedules in a commercial environment.
Experience with commercial interior demolition or full-gut renovation projects (preferred but strongly emphasized).
Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical coordination, including awareness of MEP systems in interior projects.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, demolition drawings, and basic MEP plans.
Comfort using tablets, iPads, and construction field software to manage field documentation and digital drawings.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with trades, project teams, and internal stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills to manage daily activities, documentation, and schedule tracking.
Proven problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving field issues.
Experience with commercial construction and subcontractor management in occupied or phased redevelopment environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with commercial interior demolition or full-gut renovation projects is preferred and considered a strong asset.
Strong MEP coordination awareness, particularly in mechanical and electrical systems, in a commercial setting.
Familiarity with MS Project or similar scheduling tools for planning and tracking construction activities.
Experience working on large, high-profile commercial redevelopment projects.
Comfort working with digital drawings and construction management software, regardless of specific platform.
Ability to thrive in a field-focused, execution-driven role with minimal client presentation responsibilities.
Interest in long-term, locally concentrated work along the I-91 corridor between New Haven and Hartford.
Desire to contribute to a marquee redevelopment project with ongoing phased work and future project opportunities.
Work Environment
The project takes place in a large, vacant commercial building undergoing full interior demolition and phased redevelopment, including a 500,000 square foot facility that is being completely gutted. All work is interior, with controlled site conditions and approximately three to five trades on site at any given time. The superintendent role is field-focused and centers on execution and coordination rather than self-performing labor. Work is performed on-site in Bristol, CT every workday, with typical hours from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Some overtime may be required during peak demolition phases, but regular weekend work is not expected. The environment uses tablets, iPads, digital drawings, and construction management software to support field operations and documentation. The role offers a stable schedule, supportive project leadership, and a local, predictable work geography with projects concentrated along the New Haven-Hartford corridor, providing long-term opportunities on a high-profile, career-defining redevelopment project.
