Department Summary:
The department is seeking an early-career engineer who is passionate about designing and developing user-centered solutions to address our sponsors' unique challenges. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers, designers, researchers, and stakeholders to help frame problems, understand mission needs, and translate user insights into intuitive and effective solutions. You will contribute to stakeholder engagement activities-such as discussions, feedback sessions, and iterative design reviews-to ensure solutions align with user and mission objectives.

As part of the Software Engineering Innovation Center, you will strengthen your software architecture and engineering skills while designing human-centered, user-focused computing capabilities that address the challenges of our sponsors and deliver meaningful, effective user experiences.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Collaborate closely with human factors engineers, UX designers, researchers, project leaders, and sponsors to create software proto@types using current front-end technologies and best practices.
Advocate for the end-user, ensuring user-centered design principles are consistently applied throughout the software development cycle.
Support technical guidance to MITRE teams and sponsors, analyzing software implementation, architecture, and performance.
Contribute towards the design and development of user interfaces for our software and web applications, incorporating user research and usability testing to gather insights into user needs and behaviors.
Develop wireframes, mockups, and proto@types to effectively communicate design ideas, while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and product managers, to ensure our products meet user needs.
Contribute towards the development of design systems and user interface guidelines, generating research and initiative proposals.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires less than 1 year of related experience with a bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Familiarity with UX design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar) and prototyping methods (UXE - React, Angular, Vue.js, or similar).
Exposure to software development tools and frameworks, including source control management tools (e.g., Git).
Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, D3, and modern JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular, Vue, React, and/or similar libraries.
Ability to showcase your UX design work, demonstrating your creativity and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
High level desire to help our nation solve its most critical challenges.
Able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.
Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
Requires a minimum of 50% hybrid onsite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to candidates who have completed an advanced degree in technical discipline; including but not limited to Computer Science, Human Centered Engineering, UX/UI.
Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
Knowledge of software design patterns.
Knowledge of user-centric engineering tools and techniques and a passion for developing user-centric systems that contribute to mission success.
Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and the curiosity to explore and push the boundaries of software development and software solutions.
