If so, Health and Human Sciences Extension and Outreach (HHSEO) at Iowa State University is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Budget and Finance Specialist II position!
This position directly supports HHSEO programs across the state, assisting with budget planning, financial analysis, and operational reporting. This role is critical in ensuring accurate and strategic financial oversight across a variety of initiatives within the portfolio. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with program leaders to support effective resource use, identify revenue opportunities, and maintain compliance with university financial policies.
What You'll Do:
Track expenditures, revenues, and account balances to ensure accuracy and compliance
Monitor account balances and reconcile discrepancies under the direction of leadership
Maintain supporting documentation for personnel action forms and budget changes
Assist in monitoring daily financial activity (purchasing, travel, payroll, transfers)
Support data entry, reporting, and system maintenance related to finance workflows
Prepare routine monthly budget and financial reports for HHSEO accounts and program areas
Reconcile financial records and resolve or escalate discrepancies as needed
Compile financial data and prepare projections for annual and multi-year budget planning
Document budget procedures and ensure alignment with ISU policies and guidelines
Provide support and guidance to HHSEO staff using university financial systems (e.g., Workday)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with budget tracking and financial reporting; ideally in a public or nonprofit setting.
Experience in or knowledge of Cooperative Extension.
Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets in organizations/departments/units of 50+ individuals.
Experience interpreting and supplying data for management to support decision-making, such as examining program impact data relative to the cost of program delivery, etc.
Department Description:
Health and Human Sciences Extension and Outreach delivers research-based information and education to help Iowans make informed decisions that improve their quality of life. As the outreach arm of the College of Health and Human Sciences, faculty and staff work together with HHSEO educators located across all 99 Iowa counties to translate university research into practical solutions for individuals, families, employers, and communities. Health and Human Sciences Extension and Outreach focuses on food safety, nutrition, wellness, caregiving, parenting, relationships, and personal finance for people across the lifespan. In addition, HHSEO hotlines and call centers offer assistance with home and family questions, stress counseling, financial concerns, and crisis assistance.
