We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to join ourPublic Works Department. (https://www.cathedralcity.gov/departments/public-works) This confidential position plays a vital support role within a dynamic team dedicated to maintaining and improving our community's infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. You will provide essential administrative support, coordinate department operations, and serve as a trusted resource for staff, management, and the public alike.
WORK SCHEDULE: City Hall hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Applicant must be available to work 40 hours per week. The work schedule is flexible upon approval of the department head.
Schedules range from:
4/10 - Monday - Thursday
4/10 - Tuesday - Friday
5/8 - Monday - Friday

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Administrative Assistant I($61,853 - $80,964 per year) - Equivalent to gr aduation from high school and two years of responsible secretarial or office administrative experience.
Business or secretarial school training is desirable.
Ability to @type 50 wpm from a printed copy.
Administrative Assistant II($75,183 - $98,413 per year) - Equivalent to graduation from high school and four years of progressively responsible secretarial and office administrative experience.
Business or secretarial school training is desirable.

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS
Application Review: A completed City of Cathedral City employment application and typing certificate is required. Resumes may be attached, but are not accepted in lieu of application. Incomplete applications may result in disqualification. Application review will begin immediately and will be screened on basis of relevant education, training and experience.
Examination Phase : Based upon the information presented on the application, a limited number of candidates who possess qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process. Successful candidates must be successful in each of the test components.
The examination process will include:
Typing test Pass/Fail (certificate must be included with application)
Written test Pass/Fail (Tentatively scheduled for: May 19, 2026)
Oral interview Minimum of 70% (Tentatively scheduled for May 21, 2026)
The exam dates listed above are tentative and may be subject to change at any time.
Establishment of Eligibility List: Candidates who successfully complete the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list pending further review by the department head and other qualifying procedures. This eligibility list may be used for future vacancies in other departments.
