About This Position:
This position is responsible for the electrical or mechanical inspection of movable bridges and facilities statewide. After inspection, he/she will prepare evaluation and recommendation of repairs to the bridges or facilities. If repairs are needed, the incumbent shall prepare plans and specifications for the repairs. This position also assists the statewide Electrical or Mechanical Engineer regarding maintenance to all nine districts.
While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.
NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Performs statewide inspections of movable bridges using visual checks and diagnostic equipment, identifying electrical and mechanical issues to ensure safe operation.
Develops plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents for major electrical and mechanical repair projects across state facilities.
Reviews, inspects, and approves both contracted and in-house maintenance work, while supporting audit processes conducted internally and by consultants.
Advises district offices and headquarters on electrical/mechanical maintenance matters, and serves as liaison with other state agencies and the Federal Highway Administration.
Supports statewide maintenance programs by establishing preventive maintenance systems, evaluating design adequacy, improving safety/reliability, and providing technical training for staff and bridge inspectors.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a as Engineer Intern 1 up to Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation : Some positions may qualify for a Special Entrance Rate (SER). The SER amounts are listed below:
Engineer Intern 1 - has a SER rate of $2,115.20/Biweekly
Engineer Intern 2 - has a SER rate of $2,263.20/Biweekly
Engineer 3 - has a SER rate of $2,671.20/Biweekly
Engineer 4 - has a SER rate of $2,952.00/Biweekly
Engineer 5 - has a SER rate of $3,158.40 /Biweekly
