Summary This position is located in the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System in Salt Lake City, UT. The Interior Designer has full responsibility for developing and continuing an interior design/decoration program for all areas of the VA and it's ten Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Prepares and oversees vendor sketches, perspectives, or detailed plans to scale showing color schemes, furniture, furnishings, and wall decor; Effectively coordinates and consults with representatives of such fields as lighting, architecture, mechanical, and structural engineering, as well as landscape architecture; Inspects physical installation of products in construction and renovation projects as related to interior design in order to ensure contractual compliance; Initiates and responds to project-related correspondence; Develops scopes, produces documentation, drawings, specifications, criteria, and cost estimates; Establishes and updates a resource library of furnishing, office furniture, draperies, wall coverings, floor coverings, etc.; Deals daily with management in developing detailed project requirements for a variety of services, ranging from general administrative to specialized clinic needs; Makes presentations of furniture lay out and designs using CAD files; Creates updated CAD drawings and/or floor plans; Orders products, materials and services, authorizes credit card transactions, and records purchases, ensuring procurements are within budget constraints; Manages and tracks transactions from initial purchase through receipt and/or installation of product; Monitors, modifies, and maintains an overall directional graphics and signage system for the health care system; Utilizes a work order system to manage requests, ensures timely responses, and documents completed actions; and Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the following requirement: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Interior Designer, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior @context; Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. AND LICENSE REQUIREMENT: A Driver's License, Class C or higher, is required for this position.. The license will be requested if you are referred for an interview. Must travel among various divisions and clinics requiring several hours within a single day.
