Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer II
Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer II plays a key role in transitioning complex mechanical and electromechanical products from design into scalable, high-volume production. This role focuses on applying Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles, driving New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, and partnering closely with contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure robust, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing processes. The position offers the opportunity to work on technically sophisticated products, gain exposure to advanced automation and global supply networks, and build highly transferable experience for long-term growth in advanced manufacturing and engineering leadership.
Responsibilities
Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and broader Design for X (DFX) principles to transition mechanical and electromechanical products from concept and proto@type into scalable production.
Support and lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from proto@type through mass production, including process validation, production ramp-up, and continuous refinement of manufacturing processes.
Develop, review, and optimize manufacturing processes for injection molding, machining, sheet metal fabrication, electronics assembly, and electromechanical assembly to improve yield, quality, and cost.
Interpret and refine engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models to ensure manufacturability and clear communication to suppliers and contract manufacturers.
Collaborate with contract manufacturers and suppliers to qualify new processes, perform capability studies, and manage lifecycle changes across external manufacturing partners.
Use statistical process control and capability analysis to monitor process performance, identify variation, and drive data-based improvements.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for mechanical and electrical quality issues using tools such as FMEA, 8D, and CAPA.
Contribute to and maintain accurate technical documentation within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, ensuring proper configuration control and revision management.
Work closely with cross-functional teams including design engineering, quality, test engineering, and operations to ensure smooth product transitions and ongoing production support.
Communicate technical concepts, findings, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through written reports and presentations.
Drive and support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other quality methodologies to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency.
Engage with global manufacturing partners across multiple time zones as needed to resolve issues, coordinate changes, and support program milestones.
Participate in or support the development of automated test equipment and test engineering strategies to ensure robust verification of manufactured products.
Make informed, independent decisions under ambiguity to keep projects moving forward while appropriately managing risk and escalating issues when necessary.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in manufacturing or advanced manufacturing engineering.
Hands-on experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for X (DFX) principles to real products.
Experience with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, sheet metal fabrication, electronics assembly, or electromechanical assembly.
Demonstrated experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) from proto@type through mass production, including process validation and ramp-up.
Knowledge of quality systems and continuous improvement methodologies, including Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar approaches.
Experience working with contract manufacturers and managing supplier relationships, including qualification and ongoing performance management.
Understanding of statistical process control and capability analysis to evaluate and improve manufacturing processes.
Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and specifications.
Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and technical documentation management.
Proven ability to lead failure analysis and corrective actions using tools such as FMEA, 8D, and CAPA.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to operate independently, make informed decisions under ambiguity, and drive tasks to completion in a dynamic environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
Experience with robotics, mechatronics, or electromechanical systems manufacturing.
Experience leading NPI activities specifically for complex mechanical or electromechanical products at scale.
Knowledge of test engineering principles and automated test equipment development.
Experience with failure analysis techniques including FMEA, 8D, and root cause corrective action in high-volume production environments.
Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies and smart manufacturing systems.
Experience working in global manufacturing environments across multiple time zones.
Strong project management skills with the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders.
Background in lean manufacturing and validation activities to ensure robust production processes.
Experience with mechanical fabrication and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA/DFX) for both mechanical and electromechanical products.
