Job Summary and Description:
The successful candidate will work across EPRI's Transmission Operations and Planning Group, a team of passionate power system researchers and modelers, and EPRI's DCFlex Initiative, a cross-collaborative effort centered around enabling data center flexibility. EPRI researchers have a strong track record tackling energy systems integration issues, market operation and design innovations, and related topical and structural issues with utilities, ISO/RTOs, TSOs, government agencies, and partners worldwide. The successful candidate will join a team of passionate power system modelers and data center policy experts.
The successful candidate will perform advanced engineering/scientific analysis independently while demonstrating creativity and ingenuity in providing technical solutions. You will work directly with EPRI staff and have high interaction with members and industry. This position will support EPRI teams to identify, create and transfer to action the tools, methods and experience needed by systems to operate effectively into the future

This person will specifically:
Support analysis and review of new data center policies, legislative efforts, and regulatory design, especially concerning retail rates and wholesale programs
Contribute to and lead research in economic dispatch problems and/or resource adequacy
Run or develop production cost models to analyze new research questions Lead smaller projects and work on multiple projects, including contributing to larger projects as part of a team.
Utilize research and analytical skills to develop or apply new methods or approaches to strategic challenges
Be able to work with light supervision across an international team
Prepare slide decks, briefings, and reports and present research findings to diverse audiences
Scope new cross-cutting research projects to address member and society needs.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a technical field with 4-6 years of professional experience.
Master's Degree in a technical field with 3-5 years of professional experience.
PhD in a technical field with 0-3 years of professional experience, preferred
Final level and compensation commensurate based on experience.
The ideal candidate has:
Research experience in academia, utilities, research institutes or similar, and has experience describing the issues covered to those with less experience (students, junior staff, etc.).
Desire to engage with the ongoing issues around powering data centers and enabling flexibility is critical.
Experience in conducting modeling studies and presenting insights from analyses of these topics.
Previous exposure to electric sector planning; unit commitment/economic dispatch, resource adequacy, transmission planning, generation planning, environmental compliance, or related topics.
Experience presenting and explaining complex topics in front of groups with different experience and familiarity levels
Ability to develop work independently on new topics.
Experience working in large, collaborative public projects.
Familiarity with new data center policies, legislative efforts, and regulatory design
Experience using capacity expansion, production cost simulation, or other electric system planning models, especially PLEXOS, and also including PyPSA, Spine, CrystalSuperGrid, PSO, etc.; experience developing models is a plus
Experience conducting quantitative analyses to answer market, policy, and/or technology research questions
Strong interest in solving energy and climate challenges.
Demonstrated ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams and deliver innovative solutions.
Experience conducting quantitative analyses to support energy market, policy, or technology research projects.
Demonstrated experience scoping new research, leading proposal writing, and related development tasks.
Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills; ability to present complex information clearly to varied audiences.
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities while collaborating with staff across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Familiarity with renewable and energy systems integration developments; experience conducting studies and presenting insights using relevant software tools.
Additional Details:
Some travel is expected to support conferences, meetings, and member visits.
This opportunity is open to candidates based in the US, Canada and Europe; ability to work out of EPRI office or remotely.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 USD to $103,500 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
