The incumbent serves as a Department of Veterans Affairs Information Assurance/Cybersecurity Analyst. Major Duties: Provides expert security advice and consultation in the implementation and risk management of IT networks, systems, and devices to ensure controlled accessibility and security compliance, as well as prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data. Administers and monitors the division's implementation of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) steps and activities throughout system life cycle. Monitors and tracks controlled access programs to ensure implementation and viability of appropriate systems security policies as well as the acquisition of IT security tools. Conducts vulnerability analysis and risk assessment studies of planned and installed Information Technology networks, systems, and devices to ensure enterprise/organizational plans and policies established are adequate for the protection needs against risk or vulnerabilities and are in compliance, as required by Federal statute. Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of networks, systems, devices, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of information systems security program policies, procedures, and tools. Uses data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of mitigating threats. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/07/2026. Basic Requirements: Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Experience in security controls, investigation of incidents, and coordinating responses to ensure system integrity and compliance. Experience in utilizing cybersecurity tools for continuous monitoring and threat mitigation and maintaining updated security documentation. Able to communicate technical security requirements to stakeholders and coordination with partners to enhance security measures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
