The mission of the Helena College Library Learning Hub is to enable student success in the programs and degrees offered at the college. The Academic and Career Support Coordinator is an essential position reporting directly to the Director of the Library Learning Hub. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of all Learning Hub activities related to academic and career support services for students across Helena College receiving instruction both onsite and online.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
Academic Support: Manage the hiring, training, and supervision of tutors and provide one-on-one academic coaching
Career Support: Develop career services programming and assisting students in securing internships and work-based learning opportunities
Faculty Collaboration: Partner with instructors to develop effective academic support closely aligned with course offerings and targeted delivery
Student Engagement: Design and deliver academic and career skills workshops while ensuring high-quality student service within the Learning Hub
Continuous Program Improvement: Track and analyze data to identify areas for program enhancement
These functions will be completed on-site with a presence at both Helena College campuses.
Academic Services: Responsible for individualized support in the areas of time management, personalized learning, and study strategies to students at Helena College.
Remain informed of current research and theory regarding best practices of learning and study
Provide individual academic coaching to interested students in collaboration with faculty, advisors, staff and partners within the College community
Coordinate with Financial Aid to develop academic recovery plans and provide ongoing accountability for students in reinstatement status
Coordinate with the Registrar to address the needs of students in Academic Referral, Warning, and Reinstatement statuses.
Proactively engage with students to offer individualized support and encouragement
Develop and conduct workshops for students on topics to support academic success which may include but are not limited to time management skills and study strategies
Identify and implement innovative methods to encourage student success
Attend class sessions with faculty consent to determine how best to maximize student potential.
Contribute to student retention and program completion.
Tutor Services: Responsible for the design, implementation, delivery, and assessment of tutoring services at Helena College
Create and maintain a certified on-campus and online tutor training program
Remain informed of the College of Reading and Learning's International Tutor Training Program Certification (CRLA ITTPC) standards and ensure current program certification
Hire, supervise, and train tutors to CRLA ITTPC standards in coordination with Director of Library Learning Hub
Administer scheduling platform to provide tutor information, schedule appointments, and track usage
Develop and maintain embedded tutoring and facilitated study groups each semester
Communicate regularly with faculty and tutors to meet the needs of students
Administer the use of an online tutoring program through a third party platform.
Track usage data among course areas and specific tutors to identify emerging trends
Promote awareness of the benefits of tutoring and academic support services offered each semester to faculty and students
Career Services: Responsible for collaborating with other College staff in the design, implementation, delivery, and assessment of career services at Helena College
Provide, monitor, and report on individual career, internship, and job placement services to interested students through available digital platforms
Collaborate with faculty, advisors, staff and partners to identify internship, mentorship, and work-based learning opportunities for students and, in coordination with faculty, connect interested to students to available opportunities
Develop and conduct workshops for students on topics related to career preparation and success which may include workplace professionalism, resumes and interviews, and effective communications.
Collaborate with Library Learning Hub staff on identification and acquisition of physical and electronic career services materials for placement in Library Learning Hub Collection.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to create high impact experiences for students in areas of career readiness.
Other Areas of Responsibility
Collaborate in developing and implementing workshops for new students
Represent the Library Learning Hub on various College committees and groups
Assist with orientation and other student support programs as needed
Serve as a substitute at the LLH service desk when needed
This position supervises part-time temporary tutors.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in education or a field with curriculum related to duties of the position; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Education or Experience
Master's degree in education or a field with curriculum related to duties of the position
Experience working specifically with post-secondary educational programs
Additional Information
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm schedule. Hours and schedule may vary depending on the needs of the program.
