Summary This position serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic within the Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering Service at the VA Health Care System in Marion, IL. The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance and repairing all HVAC&R (heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration) equipment and controls. Responsibilities Your duties can include but are not limited to the following: Repair troubleshoot, maintain and install air conditioning equipment including those utilized for patient food and drugs, laboratory specimens and blood products; in the hospital and ancillary buildings; Fabricate ductwork from sheet metal for modifications, installations, or repairs of air conditioning duct systems. Utilize schematics, blueprints, sketches, technical manuals, oral and written instructions while conforming to safe and efficient work practices to make adjustments, balance air flow, calibrate controls, determine temperature-to-pressure relationships, and performs other procedures necessary for proper operation of the station's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and related controls. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: May be required to bend, reach and hold awkward positions for prolonged periods. Frequently works from ladders, platforms, scaffolds, and cramped spaces. Considerable climbing, walking and stooping is also required for this position. Frequently lifts, carries, and/or moves objects 45lbs. and over either alone or with others. Works indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions, and is exposed to the usual occupational hazards. Required to work in close, extremely hot or cold places and around high voltage electricity. Must work in noisy, dusty and humid places Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
