Summary You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Submarines Test Branch under the Test Division of the Engineering Department of SUPSHIP. Responsibilities You will serve as a technical advisor responsible for maintaining surveillance, reviewing, evaluating, and approving non-nuclear testing aboard nuclear-powered submarines undergoing construction. You will monitor testing in the propulsion plant and all other hull, mechanical and electrical systems, including electrical/power generation, auxiliaries, interior communications, and shore facilities. You will be the Government representative of a Joint Test Group (JTG)/Test Task Group (TTG) to take required local approval actions for a specific ship availability test program. You will provide for technical review and local validation approval of test program documents, including operating and casualty procedures. You will ensure that preparation for and the conduct of the propulsion and Hull, Mechanical and Electrical test programs meet all contractual, technical, and safety requirements. You will conduct onboard surveillance of testing, reviewing of test data and concurring in the technical evaluation of testing problems of the propulsion plant and hull, mechanical and electrical systems You will monitor shipyard and ship compliance with applicable approved safety and operating instructions and procedures to ensure safe and proper operation of all propulsion and hull, mechanical and electrical systems and components. You will review Contractor's test program documents for technical adequacy, completeness and applicability. You will routinely and/or as necessary, personally audits onboard testing or equipment operations in progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying technical engineering methodologies to perform surveillance, evaluation, and approval of non-nuclear testing aboard ships or submarines undergoing construction, modernization or repair. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
