This position will be part of the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo), which coordinates geographic information systems within the state, creating connections between state agencies and other stakeholders from public and private organizations.
We are seeking an experienced GIS Specialist to provide dedicated support, training, spatial analysis, and database management. This role involves developing and maintaining GIS data, interactive maps, managing applications and responding to client requests for GIS products, and supporting Next Generation 9-1-1 geospatial initiatives. The ideal candidate will collaborate with local data providers, lead project workgroups, and deliver presentations to advance GIS capabilities across the state. This position may also support other MnGeo projects and programs as needed.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 445 Minnesota Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of three (3) years of IT related experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data analysis.
Experience must include:
Experience with Esri GIS software products, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, AGOL, HUB, and ArcGIS Model Builder.
Experience with relational database management tools such as SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
Knowledge of cartographic principles, map design, coordinate systems, map projections, and map-based analysis.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
Programming experience and proficiency with development tools such as Python, Visual Basic, HTML, XML, and JavaScript.
Familiarity with web-based GIS publishing and creating interactive maps and applications.
Experience working with 9-1-1 call centers, including police, fire, EMS dispatch, and emergency response operations.
Knowledge of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) terminology, standards, and GIS-related workflows.
Experience maintaining GIS data for a 9-1-1 center or closely related public safety entity.
Knowledge and application of address standards (FGDC, NENA, MNGAC), geocoding, data validation, and quality control techniques.
