TheStanford Woods Institute for the Environmentworks to advance global sustainability through new knowledge and practical, fair solutions to pressing environmental challenges. As part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, the Woods Institute provides an interdisciplinary research hub for scholars from all seven schools at Stanford. Offering targeted research incentives as well as convening, education, and leadership programs, the Woods Institute supports faculty, researchers, and students as they investigate and advance solutions to critical climate, environment, and sustainability challenges. Working on campus and around the globe, the Woods Institute and its hosted centers and programs combine cutting edge scholarship, diverse partnerships, and deep engagement across sectors and disciplines to advance just, practical solutions for people and the planet.
TheClimate & Energy Policy Program (CEPP)of Stanford's Woods Institute for the Environment operates at the interface of policy analysis, academic research and education, and stakeholder engagement. It serves as a practical, timely, and neutral voice informing decision making on climate and energy law and regulation. By collaborating with external partners in the government, private, and non-profit sectors, CEPP integrates interdisciplinary research with direct policy engagement, while also providing opportunities for Stanford students and faculty to directly engage with and solve real energy and climate policy problems.
CEPP invites applications for three positions that will advance the scale and impact of CEPP's electricity, insurance, and wildfire policy project portfolio. You will join the thriving CEPP team including lawyers, energy system experts, economists, and data scientists that bridges the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and the Stanford Law School through close partnership with the Environmental and Natural Resources Law & Policy Program (ENRLP) of Stanford Law School.
These full-time staff positions are crafted for Ph.D. or J.D. scholars with strong disciplinary expertise relevant to electricity, insurance, and wildfire and demonstrated experience in research design and execution and policy design and implementation in one or more of these areas. They offer a hands-on opportunity to apply your skills to address urgent and intensifying policy challenges in California, the western US, and beyond. This work will build on CEPP's track record of research and policy engagement on these issues and deep partnerships with policy stakeholders.
Your Responsibilities will include:
Design and execute research projects within key themes of CEPP's electricity, insurance, and wildfire policy project portfolio, including the important interactions with affordability, decarbonization, and landscape and community resilience.
Provide guidance and mentorship to research and legal fellows and other junior members of CEPP's interdisciplinary research team.
Engage in strategic planning, development of research proposals, and preparation of progress and final reports related to CEPP's projects.
Contribute to partner engagement and targeted communications to attain the goals of CEPP's funded research projects.

To be successful in this position, you will need:
Ph.D or J.D. related to electricity, insurance, and wildfire policy.
At least five years of relevant experience conducting applied research and policy engagement or policy development in the areas of electricity, insurance, and wildfire.
Ability to manage project teams and oversee staff.
Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills.
Ability to develop strategic partnerships.
Demonstrated ability to work across organizations to accomplish measurable results towards programmatic goals.
Proactive communicator with excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills for policy and general audiences.
Flexible, open-minded, and collaborative mindset with ability to navigate an ambiguous environment.

The expected pay range for this position is $93,000 to $148,000 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire . The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
