The Preproduction/Electrical Engineer collaborates closely with project leadership and estimating teams to convert construction information into accurate, buildable production documents and solutions. This role designs and develops value-added technical pricing and electrical design solutions from initial concept through completion of detailed drawings, while also guiding and mentoring team members to support their professional growth and ensure successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with project managers, preproduction leadership, and estimating teams to prioritize project needs and translate construction information into the production process.
Assist with project and preproduction estimates and proposals, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with project scope.
Coordinate design activities with consultants, subcontractor partners, and clients to support integrated project delivery.
Lead the front end of multiple projects, setting goals, managing priorities, and driving progress through the full project lifecycle.
Participate in conceptual design efforts, working with internal and external teams to develop project concepts, documentation, and solutions that meet project requirements.
Develop and refine value-added technical pricing and design solutions for electrical systems from concept through detailed drawings.
Review and maintain engineering and manufacturing drawings and models to ensure alignment with production capabilities and project requirements.
Use CAD tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Inventor to create, modify, and review electrical designs, schematics, and layouts.
Support construction management and project engineering activities, including RFIs, change orders, and coordination with field and manufacturing teams.
Ensure electrical system designs comply with applicable standards, project specifications, and operational requirements.
Collaborate with operations and manufacturing teams to support electrical assembly, facilities, and preproduction planning.
Represent the organization professionally to internal stakeholders, clients, and partners, maintaining strong communication and relationships.
Provide supervision, guidance, and mentoring to direct reports and team members, fostering their development and ensuring successful performance.
Support continuous improvement in preproduction processes, design review practices, and project execution.
Travel 15-25% of the time as needed to support project sites, client meetings, and coordination activities.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience in electrical project engineering and project management, including running multiple projects through the full project lifecycle.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
Strong background in electrical engineering, electrical design, and electrical systems.
Hands-on experience with project engineering activities such as RFIs, change orders, and coordination with construction and manufacturing teams.
Proficiency with CAD tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Inventor.
Experience in facilities maintenance or facilities management within an engineering or construction environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a preproduction or construction setting.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with leadership, clients, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
Proven leadership, supervision, and team management capabilities.
Experience with operations management and manufacturing or assembly environments.
Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and ensure compliance with project requirements.
Solid understanding of construction management and preconstruction processes.

Work Environment
This role supports a modern preproduction and manufacturing facility with a strong focus on electrical engineering and OEM-style solutions. The position operates primarily during typical business hours, generally between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work outside these hours as needed to meet business and project demands. The work involves regular use of engineering and CAD software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Inventor, along with collaboration tools and standard office and production technologies. The environment blends office-based engineering work with close interaction with production and manufacturing teams in a facility setting. Travel of approximately 15-25% is expected to support projects and client needs.
