Summary This position is assigned to the Facilities Management Unit, Engineering Service at the Joseph M Cleland - Atlanta VA Medical Center located in Decatur, Georgia. The incumbent performs maintenance work on lawns, flowerbeds, shrubbery, trees, sidewalks, streets and storm drains. He/she performs limited road maintenance work; and uses concrete, gravel, and/or asphalt to fill and level holes in damaged roads. The manual tasks at this level involves very heavy physical effort. Responsibilities Loads and unloads trucks and other conveyors. Shovels snow from sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and spread salt in those areas. Mixes, sprays, or spreads fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders. Operates vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws. Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools. Clean filters daily and tightens or sharpens as necessary. Inspects equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. Communicates with others to convey information effectively. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must be physically able to do a considerable amount of walking, standing, climbing ladders, stooping, bending and crawling. Incumbent must be able to work in congested areas in tight, cramped, or awkward positions. Incumbent may be required to carry and set up ladders. Incumbent may be required to lift or move heavy equipment or furniture that may weigh more than 100 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to cleaning chemicals and be fit tested for proper PPE. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 100lbs with assistance.
