Summary About the Position: Serves as the Director of the consolidated museums and related programs of Military History and Heritage. The museums contain large collections of foreign and domestic material of historical value. Independently discharges responsibility for the oversight, operation, management, development, and expansion of the museums. Serves as a senior advisor to the local Commander on matters pertaining to the US Army Museum Enterprise, its programs, and regulations. Responsibilities Plan and supervises all museum operations to include exhibits, conservations, and management of collections. Responsible for long-range planning and development of the Museum complex. Responsible for ensuring all property through non-appropriated monies, but not entered into the local property book. Ensure that subordinate museum curators supervise the care and preservation of a wide variety of artifacts through proper storage/display techniques, and the implementation of conservation measures. Manage the submission of work orders into the Department of Public Works (DPW) work request process to compete for sustainment, restoration, or modernization funding (SRM). Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work; Assign work to subordinates; Evaluate work performance of subordinates. Basic Education Requirement Must have a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies. OR Have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR Have four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above applicants must also meet the specialized experience below: Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-13 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience researching a diverse collection of military historical objects; AND Interpreting a collection of historical military objects to develop narrative or educational material; AND Creating an operational budget for a museum or artifact collection; AND Developing work plans for an educational historical program. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
