Job Description
This role supports utility construction projects by coordinating project documentation, schedules, and field activities to ensure safe, high-quality, and on-time delivery of transmission, substation, and grid modernization work. The position offers stable, long-term utility experience, local office-based work with minimal travel, and clear opportunities for career growth into project management and leadership roles.
Responsibilities
Monitor overall project status and proactively identify issues, risks, and scope changes that may impact cost, schedule, or customer relationships.
Document and clearly communicate project issues, risks, and scope changes to the Project Manager in a timely and organized manner.
Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, including drawing logs, as-built drawings, record drawings, and updated construction documents.
Provide technical and administrative support to construction teams, assisting with construction planning, coordination, and day-to-day project execution.
Update and maintain construction schedules, track project milestones, and monitor progress against established project goals.
Track productivity and performance metrics to help ensure projects remain on schedule and within scope.
Coordinate with on-site construction crews and subcontractors to support safe work practices, quality workmanship, and adherence to project schedules.
Help ensure proper housekeeping and organization at project sites through effective coordination and communication.
Assist with routine safety audits and inspections to support compliance with safety policies, storage requirements, and safe work practices.
Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, assistant project managers, project coordinators, and other internal stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Essential Skills
Experience in construction, environmental, field-based, or closely related roles.
Ability to proactively problem-solve and anticipate internal stakeholder needs.
Capability to read and interpret construction prints and drawings.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with project teams and stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, documentation, and schedules simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with office staff, field crews, and subcontractors.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Interest in developing a career in utility construction, project coordination, or project management.
Willingness to learn about high-voltage transmission, substations, protection and control, civil and foundation work, and energized utility work.
Motivation to grow into project management, leadership, or specialty roles within the utility construction and infrastructure space.

Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based, working out of a Fort Wayne, IN office in a professional project management setting. The position follows a Monday-Friday schedule, with a standard 40-hour workweek. You will collaborate closely with project managers, assistant project managers, project coordinators, and other cross-functional team members. While most work occurs in the office, you can expect occasional site visits a few times per month to observe field activities, interact with on-site crews, and support project coordination. The work centers on long-term utility construction programs, including transmission, substation, and grid modernization projects, providing exposure to high-voltage and critical infrastructure environments while maintaining a largely stable, local schedule.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
