Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for legal administrative support. At the full performance level, you will provide a variety of legal and technical support services to the United States Attorney's Office in Wilmington, Delaware . If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include: Using technology and automated software to manage incoming and outgoing documents and requests, draft routine correspondence, subpoenas, Admissions of Service, Notice of Depositions, Civil Investigative Demands, Discovery Reports, pleadings, settlement documents, and administrative requests related to service of process, funding, and training. Managing, organizing, reviewing, and summarizing incoming and outgoing discovery in electronic or other format in compliance with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Electronically filing legal pleadings, stipulations, motions, briefs (including appeal briefs), affidavits, declarations, and other legal documents as directed by attorneys in state and federal courts. Proofreading, formatting, and cite-checking legal briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents for grammatical and spelling errors. Working with attorneys and client agencies to prepare witness lists, facilitate timely receipt of relevant evidence, and identify most effective litigation strategy. Operating a variety of computer software and equipment, printers, scanners, digital imaging, and audio-visual devices to create special exhibits that can be effectively used as exhibits in depositions or trial, including charts, spreadsheets, diagrams, and photographs. Preparing and maintaining a variety of trial-related documents including witness lists, exhibit lists, jury instructions, and subpoenas by applying knowledge of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and application of practical legal experience. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level which can also be obtained in either the private or public. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following @types of duties: performing routine litigation support assignments such as assisting with organizing case information (i.e., scanning and creating CDs); organizing case documents for trial such as exhibits and compiling witness and/or exhibit lists; assisting in the use of technology such as preparing discovery or organizing digital evidence; assisting in conducting research, analysis and evaluation of data in response to requests; preparing a variety of legal documents. OR Education: One of the following @types of education in a related field: one full year of graduate level education in related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice). Education at the graduate level must be obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: (1) Class standing- in the upper third of the graduating class in the college or university. (2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.) - have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society - Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level which can also be obtained in either the private or public. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following @types of duties: performing routine litigation support assignments such as maintaining accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials; assisting attorneys in preparing for court such as preparing subpoenas, exhibits, compiling trial notebooks, compiling witness and/or exhibit lists, and/or preparing computerized trial presentations; conducting research, analysis and evaluation of data in response to requests; using automated legal research tools such as Eclipse, Relativity, Trial Director, as well as public information databases to perform basic research of case-specific legal matters; and preparing, drafting/or editing a variety of legal documents. OR Education: Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice); or two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. My education was obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
