Summary This position is located at Coatesville VA Medical Center, within the Environmental Management Services and is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Receives linen carts from contracted linen service provider, fold, and stock shelves in the Laundry room. Ensures adequate laundry stock on linen distribution carts, label patient clothing, and pick up soiled laundry/linen from designated areas. Rotates through a variety of work sites in the facility throughout tour of duty to meet workload demands. Operates various textile care equipment. Maintains specific quantities of standard-use items. Items will be counted, stacked on turn-around carts, and recorded on daily report sheets. Participate in semi-annual linen inventories and perform other related textile care duties as assigned. Ensures all bags of specialty items, and uniforms are collected, recorded, and loaded on truck. Ensures individual cart or basket will be covered to prevent contamination in transit. Carts will be tagged for proper destination. Carts will then be loaded onto trailers or truck (in a prescribed manner to conserve space) for a specified destination. Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner and accomplishes work assignment using appropriate safety and infection control procedures. Keeps work area and equipment clean. Working Conditions: You will be exposed to disagreeable odors and possibly infectious organisms from soiled linens, patient clothing, and employee uniforms and when changing laundry detergent/bleach containers required to operate the industrial washers. You will be exposed to noise and hot and humid conditions. You will be exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises from carts and machinery and minor burns from the presence of steam pipes and flatwork ironer. You may be exposed to inclement weather.
