JOB SPECIFICS
Washington County Community Services is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accounting Supervisor. This position follows generally accepted accounting principles to prepare, maintain and analyze financial records necessary to satisfy internal and external reporting requirements.
This position requires significant technical knowledge, independent judgment, accuracy and the ability to manage assignments of a more complex nature. The Accounting Supervisor functions as a subject matter expert, directing day-to-day financial operations while mentoring and supervising junior accountants and financial technicians.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of experience in human services finance and fiscal reporting
Previous work experience generating, interpreting, and analyzing financial data, concisely communicating findings to collaborators, and providing actionable insights
Paid work experience leading projects and/or fiscal teams, providing training and mentorship to junior staff, and/or serving as a technical resource for staff
Previous experience developing processes to optimize workflow, internal controls, technical functionality, and cost efficiency
Demonstrates an ability to work on a diverse team and promote an inclusive, culturally competent, and respectful workplace
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
HOURS / DAYS: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $84,718.40 - $115,668.80 Annually

The Accounting Supervisor ensures the County's fiscal integrity through consistent application of County policies related to the general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, treasury, collections, and accounts receivable.
EMPLOYMENT CRITERIA
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The job requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or a closely related field, and five years of paid professional financial experience which includes auditing, internal controls, general ledger accounting, budgeting or taxation, or equivalent. Two years of supervisory or four years of lead worker experience is required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Please note that Accounting Supervisors may perform some or all of the following tasks depending on their areas of expertise.
Manage day-to-day financial operations.
Ensure the County's fiscal integrity through consistent application of County policy related to the general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, treasury, collections, and accounts receivable.
Manage and monitor day-to-day fiscal operations.
Recommend candidates to hire, provide training, and provide direct supervision to staff.
Assure effective personnel management including recommendations for resource management, staff development, performance management and disciplinary action.
Manage financial systems, processes and reporting procedures.
Design and develop reporting systems (external and internal) for performance and management control of County operations.
Anticipate and respond to new financial legislation that affects County financial systems and reporting.
Forecasts income and expenditures for budgeting purposes; monitors revenues and expenditures.
Audit, evaluate and document current processes and procedures to ensure adequate financial and internal controls; revise systems and processes as needed; research, design and incorporate new programs into the existing system to ensure current accounting practices satisfy legal compliance requirements; provide leadership and assistance in Countywide efforts for re-engineering and system enhancements.
Provide advice and assistance regarding financial operations to County departments and department leadership.
Collaborate with managers and directors to design, develop and implement Department policies and procedures; assist other departments in process and system improvements to ensure proper integration with financial systems and the integrity of the audit.
Assist external auditors in the review and auditing of County operations, preparation of audit work papers, and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report; Prepares budget for unit and assists management with budget training and completion.
Represent department at meetings and conferences.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical effort is light for the majority of work with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently. There is frequent pressure associated with a project or activity deadlines and details. Report preparation and writing at times requires extended use of a keyboard. Work interruptions are frequent.
Must have own means of reliable transportation for business purposes. Individuals operating a motor vehicle for County business must possess a valid driver's license.
