The 3rd Shift Bakery Mixing Lead oversees mixing operations on multiple production lines in a high-volume bakery environment during the overnight shift. This role leads a team in producing high-quality food products, ensures adherence to quality and safety standards, and supports continuous improvement across the production process. The position requires hands-on leadership, strong knowledge of food manufacturing practices, and the ability to train and develop team members while maintaining efficient and consistent production.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee mixing operations on multiple bakery production lines during 3rd shift (Sunday through Friday, approximately 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.), maintaining flexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet production demands, especially during busy holiday seasons.
Supervise and direct production staff on the mixing lines, providing clear instructions, guidance, and support to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate completion of all tasks.
Oversee the operation of production lines in a food and beverage manufacturing environment, ensuring that each line produces the correct products according to daily order demands.
Train incoming quality and production employees on standard operating procedures (SOPs), good manufacturing practices (GMPs), safety expectations, and quality standards.
Implement and uphold quality standards throughout the mixing and production processes, monitoring product quality and making adjustments as needed to maintain consistency.
Follow and enforce SOPs, GMPs, and other documented procedures to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the mixing and production areas, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
Assist in creating, managing, and adjusting production schedules to meet order requirements and optimize use of equipment and labor.
Collaborate with quality assurance, sanitation, and other departments to maintain food safety standards and regulatory compliance, including USDA and FDA requirements.
Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping related to production, quality checks, and compliance activities.
Work closely with the sanitation team by coordinating equipment cleaning schedules and understanding the disassembly and reassembly requirements of large mixers and other machinery.
Use Microsoft programs to manage schedules, track production metrics, document procedures, and communicate with team members and leadership.
Promote a culture of safety by reinforcing OSHA standards, identifying potential hazards, and addressing safety concerns promptly.
Provide feedback, coaching, and recognition to team members to support performance, engagement, and retention.
Support leadership in fostering a positive, collaborative work culture where employee appreciation and teamwork are highly valued.
Essential Skills
2-3 years of lead or supervisory experience within a food manufacturing facility.
Proven experience supervising direct reports and overseeing the operation of a production line in a food and beverage manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience with food production, including mixing batches in a bakery or blending environment.
Experience training employees in production and quality roles, including onboarding and ongoing development.
Experience implementing and maintaining quality standards in a food manufacturing setting.
Demonstrated experience following and enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMPs).
Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control processes in a regulated food production environment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft programs for scheduling, documentation, and communication.
Familiarity with USDA and FDA regulations relevant to food manufacturing.
Familiarity with OSHA standards and workplace safety practices in a production environment.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities on a busy production floor.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing or production environment.
Experience implementing and maintaining HACCP and SQF programs is a plus.
HACCP and SQF certifications are considered an advantage.
Experience in a bakery environment with large mixers, ovens, and blending equipment.
Background in production management within food manufacturing.
Ability to troubleshoot production issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams such as quality, maintenance, and sanitation.
Comfort working in a fast-growing organization with evolving processes and plans for expansion.
Strong commitment to food safety, product quality, and employee well-being.
Work Environment
This role operates in a food manufacturing facility with multiple bakery production lines, where each line produces different products based on daily order demands. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $52000.00/yr.
This is a direct placement position Benefits will be provided by client upon start of assignment or before if requested by candidate.
