The Senior Electrical Engineer provides technical leadership and support for a power-generating plant, ensuring reliable and efficient performance of electrical and mechanical systems. This role combines hands-on plant support with long-term planning, including the development of budgets and strategies to maintain and improve equipment performance. The engineer manages capital and operations and maintenance (O&M) projects, conducts engineering analyses, and develops design options and recommendations for plant structures, systems, and components. This position requires 10 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, along with strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for electrical and mechanical systems at a power-generating plant to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Develop long-term plans and budgets to maintain, upgrade, and improve equipment performance.
Manage capital and O&M projects from concept through implementation, following prescribed procedures and standards.
Conduct engineering analyses to develop design options and make recommendations for plant structures, systems, and components.
Offer technical direction and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance teams to resolve equipment and system issues.
Perform ongoing inspections and evaluations of plant equipment to assess condition, performance, and reliability.
Recommend design and performance improvements, upgrades, and modifications based on inspection findings and engineering analysis.
Serve as a key troubleshooting resource for plant staff, helping diagnose and resolve complex electrical and mechanical problems.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors to coordinate projects and technical solutions.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that scope, schedule, and quality requirements are met.
Apply engineering principles and best practices to ensure compliance with internal standards and industry expectations.
Make independent technical decisions with appropriate consultation with management when needed.
Essential Skills
Accredited bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Approximately 10 years of related experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a power-generating or similar industrial environment.
Strong understanding of core electrical engineering principles and their application in power generation.
Proven experience implementing engineering projects and providing technical direction.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills for working across operations, maintenance, engineering, and vendors.
Ability to make sound independent decisions with appropriate consultation with management.
Experience providing technical support and troubleshooting for electrical and mechanical systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in power generation or heavy industrial facilities supporting plant systems and equipment.
Background in managing capital and O&M projects, including planning, budgeting, and execution.
Experience conducting equipment inspections and performance evaluations and recommending upgrades or modifications.
Ability to build effective working relationships with plant staff, engineering teams, and external vendors.
Comfort working in both office and field environments, including performing physical activities such as walking, climbing, and bending.
Work Environment
The role is based onsite at a power-generating plant and involves a combination of office and field work. Field activities require regular walking, climbing, and bending in and around plant equipment and structures. The plant environment can be cold during the winter and hot during the summer, and the engineer will spend time in operating areas where conditions vary with the season and plant operations. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams in a hands-on, technically challenging setting focused on reliability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $75.00/hr.
