Entry-level to Mid-level Test Engineer
Job Description
This entry-level to mid-level Test Technician role focuses on hands-on bring-up, functional testing, and validation of embedded avionics systems. You will work closely with design engineers to ensure that custom PCBAs and flight-ready hardware perform as intended, from early proto@types through production. The position is engineering-driven and ideal for someone who takes strong ownership of their work, enjoys methodical problem solving, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, hardware-focused environment.
Responsibilities
Perform test, verification, and validation of avionics hardware, including custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and embedded systems.
Execute tests that measure efficiency, power, response time, and capacity to validate system performance and reliability.
Support initial hardware bring-up, including firmware loading, basic configuration, and debugging of embedded systems.
Execute detailed test plans and procedures based on system and interface requirements, ensuring full coverage of functional and performance criteria.
Use laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to troubleshoot and validate digital and analog signals at the board and system level.
Gather, organize, and document test data in a clear and structured manner, collaborating closely with design engineers to interpret results and resolve issues.
Create and maintain test reports, including contributions to end item data packages (EIDP) and other formal documentation required for hardware delivery.
Assist in generating and processing non-conformance reports (NCRs) in partnership with hardware and software teams, ensuring issues are captured and resolved systematically.
Contribute to the expansion and refinement of production test flow, helping to improve test coverage, efficiency, and repeatability.
Select, gather, and set up the appropriate test equipment suite as defined by product specifications or engineering requirements.
Operate standard lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and electronic loads, to support testing and troubleshooting activities.
Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, torque wrenches, and tweezers to assemble, adjust, or rework hardware during test setups.
Document real-time issues and test observations thoroughly, maintaining accurate records to support traceability and future debugging.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, providing clear and concise communication about test status, issues, and results.
Apply a structured, methodical approach to testing and debugging, following established engineering processes and best practices.
Essential Skills
0-5 years of experience in test engineering, hardware testing, or a closely related role involving debugging, test execution, and reporting.
Demonstrated problem-solving and debugging experience with electronic hardware or embedded systems.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret electrical schematics and detailed test plans.
Experience creating and maintaining reports of test results and contributing to end item data packages (EIDP).
Hands-on experience performing test, verification, and validation of avionics or similar high-reliability hardware, including PCBAs and embedded systems.
Proficiency with standard laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, logic analyzers, and electronic loads.
Proficiency with common hand tools, including screwdrivers, torque wrenches, and tweezers, in an electronics lab environment.
Basic understanding of electronics fundamentals, including digital and analog concepts, and practical debugging techniques.
Ability to execute test plans and procedures derived from system and interface requirements with high attention to detail.
Strong documentation skills, with a detail-oriented approach to recording test setups, results, and issues.
Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional engineering team.
Demonstrated experience working within an engineering organization using a structured, methodical approach to work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Scripting experience with Python, Bash, or similar languages to support test automation, data collection, and tooling.
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git for managing scripts, configurations, and documentation.
Exposure to aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability embedded systems environments.
Experience working in an electronics laboratory that follows ESD (electrostatic discharge) and FOD (foreign object debris) control plans.
Experience with environmental testing, including operation or support of Thermal Vacuum Chambers (TVAC) or Thermal Chambers.
Experience performing mate and demate of equipment from test articles, following proper handling and connection procedures.
Experience with digital ticketing or procedural systems such as JIRA, Epsilon3, or Business Central.
Familiarity with embedded Linux boards, test jigs, or hardware-in-the-loop test setups.
Strong sense of responsibility and ownership over assigned tasks and deliverables.
Interest in working on next-generation satellite and spacecraft electronics in a high-impact, engineering-focused environment.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role in a collaborative, engineering-driven environment where everyone works closely together in the lab and on hardware. The culture emphasizes empowering technical staff to make decisions and execute their work with minimal oversight, enabling fast-paced development of next-generation spacecraft electronics while maintaining a strong sense of ownership and accountability. The team values both hard work and a healthy work-life balance, supporting individuals who are passionate about engineering and who also maintain a rich life outside of work. The facility features well-equipped electronics laboratories with standard test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, electronic loads, and environmental test systems. The dress code is extremely casual, allowing you to be comfortable while working hands-on with hardware. The organization invests in employee well-being by providing frequent perks such as company-ordered lunches multiple times per week, along with unlimited snacks, candy, soft drinks, and access to an espresso machine, fostering a relaxed yet focused atmosphere where engineers can do their best work.
