Job Title: Construction Superintendent - Ground-Up Data Center
Job Description
This role leads the on-site construction of a large-scale, ground-up data center project located in the Subtropolis area of Kansas City, MO. The initial assignment is a 15+ month new build data center in a cave environment, with the slab already in place and work underway, and the overall program expected to extend into mid to late summer of 2027. The Construction Superintendent oversees all field operations, coordinates subcontractors and suppliers, and ensures the project meets quality, schedule, and safety expectations. This position is primarily local with no travel required, though optional travel opportunities may be available for those interested. Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day on-site supervision and coordination of all phases of ground-up data center construction.
Study and interpret contract drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and client standards to fully understand the design intent and project requirements.
Plan and schedule subcontractors, suppliers, and material deliveries to maintain project timelines and support uninterrupted field operations.
Perform regular quality control inspections to verify that all work complies with project specifications and client standards.
Ensure subcontractors execute their contracted scopes of work completely, accurately, and on schedule.
Coordinate all required inspections with the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and ensure timely resolution of any issues.
Manage the job site safety program, monitor field activities, and identify and correct subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
Maintain thorough project documentation, including detailed daily logs and rolling three-week look-ahead schedules.
Conduct regular subcontractor and coordination meetings to review progress, resolve field conflicts, and align on upcoming work.
Oversee job site cleanliness, organization, and material laydown to support safe and efficient operations.
Lead the job progress tracking process and manage the closeout and punch list activities to achieve timely project completion.
Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to support collaboration and repeat business.
Promote a culture of safety, inclusion, and respect across the jobsite, ensuring all team members feel valued and heard.
Support data haul expansion and the full scope of traditional new build activities associated with a mission-critical data center.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience serving as a lead superintendent on ground-up construction projects of $25 million or more.
Proven experience managing all field aspects of large, complex commercial or mission-critical projects from start to finish.
Proficiency with Procore for project management, documentation, and field coordination.
Experience using Microsoft Project for creating and maintaining construction schedules.
Strong skills in subcontractor management, including planning, coordination, performance oversight, and conflict resolution.
Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems commonly used in mission-critical and data center environments.
Solid understanding of construction management principles, including sequencing, logistics, and resource planning.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and work from construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
Strong commitment to job site safety and familiarity with OSHA standards and best practices.
High school diploma or GED.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to direct field teams and collaborate with project stakeholders.
Ability to maintain accurate daily reports, look-ahead schedules, and other project documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with new build data center projects is preferred but not required.
Experience in mission-critical construction environments is highly beneficial.
OSHA 30 certification is strongly preferred.
Experience coordinating inspections with local authorities and regulatory agencies.
Proven ability to foster a culture of safety, inclusion, and teamwork on the jobsite.
Track record of performance-based growth and taking on increasing levels of responsibility in field leadership roles.
