Summary This position is located at the Alexandria Veterans Affairs Medical Center and has been placed on the National Historic Register with five Community Based Out-Patient Clinics. The work requires consideration of old and new construction methods for our many buildings and requires covering many buildings with current and future security needs and convenience. With over 100 acres of grounds the camera system is a must for safety 24 hours a day. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Independently installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity. Determines the operation of the circuits, locates the points from which to take readings, analyze the schematic layout and make preliminary visual inspections and operational tests to determine components causing malfunctions or invalid readings. Makes repairs by replacing damaged, missing, burnt or faulty items. Independently diagnose, repair all mechanical issues, oil changes, fluid leaks, preventive maintenance, starting and running issues, power loss issues, and maintain diesel emergency generators around facility in key areas for patient care criteria. Assembling items with a wide variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, biscuit, and mortise and tenon, and using glues and adhesives to secure wood pieces, veneers, and counter tops. Maintains various @types of locking systems such as the Best Lock Security System and combination locks. Installs and maintains electrified locking devices such as mortise locks, cylindrical locks, cabinet locks, rim locks, panic exit devices, etc. Interpreting drawings, blueprints, and specifications and determining the layout and work sequences of work to be completed. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must have normal or corrected to normal hearing and vision. Frequent strenuous physical demands are present in all functions and is not limited to lifting and carrying of 50 lbs. Regular color vision and finger dexterity is required for identification of wire color strands for IT terminations. Daily duties require considerable walking, stair climbing, ladder and scaffold climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, working off high ladders, scaffolds, wearing of harnesses and respirators, as well as heavy lifting and strenuous exertion for extending amounts of time as required by the work. Work in all series require the wearing of steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and some specialized PPE. Work is performed inside and outside of buildings, well-lit and under safe, adequately ventilated conditions. Exposure to high and low ambient temperatures, drafts, equipment noise, paint fumes, spray mist, dust, dirt, chemicals, cuts, bruises, broken bones, and noxious fumes is common. Wearing of uncomfortable protective equipment and clothing is occasionally necessary. Exposure to asbestos and lead based paint, as well as other toxins, is of daily concern with buildings of the age. Extreme temperatures are a factor as some equipment is located in attics and basements or on parking lot pole lights.
